Default S2000 Redlines at 8800rpm?

Since I purchased my S2000 I always assumed that it redlines at 9000rpm. Well, I got this thing called a shift beeper to help me gauge when to shift so that I won't have to look down at the tachometer. It gives warning beeps that help you pace your shift. I can't imagine a greater bang for the buck modification that you can purchase for your car. Anyway, this shift beeper also has an added feature that records the highest rpm reached since you last reset it. I've been practicing my shifting and have been able to consistently shift when the red part of the tachometer flashes once. I've done this several times and played the tones on the shift beeper to determine the maximum rpm reached and the result is 8800rpm. Once I stayed on it a split second longer, the red zone flashed twice and the maximum rpm reached was 8900rpm. Is it common knowledge that the redline is at 8800rpm and I've just missed the obvious? I'm just kind of surprised. Of course the fuel cutoff is higher, but I don't really want to do a test to determine exactly where it kicks in.

I've never hit the rev limiter myself, and I swear I take it up almost to 9,000 on occasion, but I've yet to see the blinking red lights people talk about from time to time.

I guess I'm shifting sooner than I think.

when you hit the red it blinks 3 times i think then the fuel cuts off and then you bog a bit.

There's no set amount of blinks.
Let me try to explain.

The fuel cut off is likely set at 9000 RPM I'm . The time between the first blink and the engine reaching the cut-off point is very short in the first gear and a bit longer in each of the higher gears. For example, the tach blinks twice before fuel cuts off in first gear, but it blinks 3-4 times in 2nd and 4, or even 5 times in 3rd. The higher the gear, the slower the RPM climbs and the longer it takes for the engine to reach the actual cut-off point after the tach starts blinking, thus you get different amount of blinking on different days in different gears.

I've seen blinking red bar on a few occasions and always assumed I've gone past the 9000rpm mark. I've heard of miscalibrated speedometer..., don't tell me tachometers could short change us too?

Anyway, unless proven otherwise, I'll just continue to believe my tach that the redline is indeed at 9,000.

technically the redline is at 8900 rpm, as stated in the service manual.

Bret: Run the car until the fuel cutoff and see what your little read-out says. I'll bet it says: 9,100 RPM.

The problem is the definition of "redline." If you mean where that red colored line starts, it's at 8,800RPM. If you mean the manufaturer's recommended max RPM it's 8,900RPM. If you are looking for specs on things in magazines and product broschers then they tend to round and it's 9,000RPM. If you mean fuel-cut off then it's 9,100.RPM.

The defininition of 'is' is...

What else matters? Blinking lights? How nice... I suppose they expect me to look at those lights rather than the upcoming apex cone?

I don't know how accurate the tachometer that's built into the V-AFC is, but I've had it read 9100+RPM plenty of times on the track.
