S2000 Right For Me?
This car is cheap. My first car costs over 4 times this. The thing is the S2k is not the most practical car nor is it the safest. Even good teenage males are tempted to show off and do stupid things when under peer pressure. If insurance in Canada is similar to the US, you are looking somewhere in the $2k range annually.
That's outrageous. ^ at sixteen you drove a 40,000$ car?
And you should not get a loan in order to afford the car as well. Your car payment should not be your full monthly income. At 16 you don't really need to worry about cargo space or passengers. Usually 16year olds don't have kids.

Wow, first things first, this community is awesome! I didn't expect so many helpful replies.
You guys seem to be split pretty evenly on what to do.
A few big issues that keep coming up are winter driving, the practicality (fact it's a two seater with little room for anything other than two people), and the financial aspect.
I'm not considering buying an S to use it the same way I'd use a civic. I don't think the fact it's a two seater will bother me much, if at all, considering many of my friends will also be buying cars around the same time, and even now we really don't have trouble getting around, the public transportation here is decent. I also won't be driving it in the winter, it'll be stored in a garage for the winter months, and in the meantime I could always use the van if I really needed to get somewhere, as well as a bus or train. I'd buy this car to enjoy it when it's nice outside, to take it to track days and centralia (thanks for mentioning that, whoever did, I had been looking for somewhere just like it), to cruise out on the country roads, just to drive it. I love driving. I don't travel far, and it would get me where I needed to go no problem, and I don't need the features/functionality that a different, more sensible car would have.
The financial aspect is the one limiting factor at this point. After seeing the replies, I did talk with my mom about this. I did underestate the price of the actual car, if I have to save up for a few months longer, then that isn't a problem. It's not like I need a car the second I get my G2, I manage fine without one now and I can't see that changing in the forseeable future. Also, assuming insurance will be roughly 2k a year, or ~165 a month, that's less then a third of what I make. Thankfully my mom would be willing to loan me some money for the car also, so I don't think I'll have much trouble affording the car, insurance, gas, and other minor expenses and small repairs.
I fully realize there's more to life than a car, and I've factored in how I'll afford, for example, University/college tuition. At the moment, living on residence isn't what I'm planning to do, as I'm lucky enough to live in a city with two universities and a college, and there a numerous schools in neighboring cities as well. Around here, that's ~12k that I won't have to worry about.
I can't thank you guys enough, your responses were exactly what I was looking for. I think, when the time comes, I'm going to try and get my hands on an S. I'll be sure to post pictures of it here, just for you guys.
Thanks again!

Anyhow good luck to you OP.
I'm sorry to say this, but I highly doubt any 8-10k S2K in Canada is a good idea. I've been looking around for a while (in Canada!), and I can confidently say there are practically no S2K's for that range that haven't been through the ringer
If you do go ahead, make sure you have the under body & rear quarter panels checked for rust!

Yeah an s2k for 10k is more reasonable in the states than in Canada. should save up more and get a better car instead of a car with alot of work to do. Sometimes a cheap buy is an expensive buy if you know what I mean
Thank you. Just because someone had wealthy parents does not mean $10k+ is a cheap first car. I wonder sometimes how detached from the majority of the population some people really are.
