S2000 and RSX Type S
CDR,
Can you tell us a little more about:
-- type of driving you do daily? Short trips? Highway? Miles per cycle?
-- how often you see redline?
-- does your car see road course events?
-- temperature variations where you live?
These questions will provide more insight as to what oil would be best for you application. Stick with full synthetic oils (Mobil 1 , Redline) and if you attend the track and see redline frequently, then REDLINE would be the ONLY choice. Period.
The 5w20/w30 recommendation is strictly for EPA and CAFE regulations, nothing more, as you mechanic stated.
Only a analysis of your oil can provide conclusive evidence to this question. This company
BlackStone Labs Oil Analysis performs oil analysis when you send them your oil. I have learned a invaluable amount of information after performing this analysis on my oil.
If you have any questions, please ask. There is nothing worse then seeing people use Dino 5w30 or 10w30 in their S.

Hope that helps.

Also, if I change my mineral oil and oil filter every 3-4k miles, am I better off doing this or, alternatively, going with synthetic and changing it every 7,500 miles. I'm guessing the former, as two oil filters within 7,500 miles are better than one.
