You might want to ask the Greek S2000 owners, since you use different measurements for fuel - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=143

In general though, RX-8s typically get 16-20mpg combined while S2000s get 22-24 mpg combined.

In my experience, no matter how hard or conservatively I drove the car, I never got lower than 15mpg for an entire tank, and never higher than 18 (babied it for a whole tank). The annoying part was that at the time, gas was nearly $5/gallon over here for premium. I'd spend $70 for gas and get under 200 miles out of it.

I looked hard at G35's, 350z's, RX-8's, and the beloved S2000. Here is what i found:

G35/350Z: 03-06 Worst manual tranny ever designed. 06-last run not as bad, but still a good bit of problems. You see a TON of them for sale with 55-60k miles for a reason... The warranty is only good for 60k miles.

RX-8: A LOT of engine failures, especially in the earlier years. Nuff said.

S2000: A good bit of them have notchy trannies. That's about it.

Seemed an easy decision to me!

I agree with emac0408. Driving the 350z is like driving a semi. Very harsh and rough plus the trannies are trash. You wouldn't beleive home many z owners I run into that are not aware of this and have to bring them up too speed.

I have driven alot of cars and the S2k to me is still smooth as glass when it comes to shifting.

Well, besides notchy transmissions, there was the issue with early engines having the spark plugs back out, and the axel splines coming loose, or the "glass" differentials breaking on launches, and the soft top strikers becoming loose and rattling, and the #4 cylinder oil starvation issues on early models, or the soft tops tearing because they aren't designed well... I could go on.

Point is, no car is perfect, one could easily paint the S2000 as an unreliable POS if you just went by the TSBs and hearsay. We tend to gloss over teh S2000 faults because we love them, but we should keep things in perspective. When you have a car you love, its easy to overlook the niggling issues.
An rx8 GT car won the GT part of the rolex 24 at daytona. they sound great, such high revving engines. but due to gas mileage and uncertainty of the rotary, I didn't even consider it.

Same question has been asked in our local forum, however the feedback from US, for our friend Kafu, will be appreciated as well. Thank you.
