Thumbs up S2000 seating position

I went to Carmax today specifically to see how I would feel in an S2000. I'm about 6' 2" and fit perfectly within the seat's width, but the bottom of the steering wheel was only a couple of inches from hitting the top of my legs.

Is there any correct seating position in regards to the gap between the bottom of the wheel and the upper leg? I adjusted the seat backwards until my wrist "broke" the top of the steering wheel. I didn't test drive the car, but I went through gas, brake, clutch motion and my legs came close but never actually hit the steering wheel. I read through the FAQ seat lowering but still have my doubts on if the driving position is ideal.

Thanks in Advance!

At 6'2" you should be fine. I'm the same height and drove my car for three years before buying the BYS seat rail. It lowers the seat about an inch. The only difference between 6'2" and 5'7" or so is, less choices of seat positions. We are pretty much stuck with one or two different positions on the seat. It makes long drives tough sometimes, but day to day driving is not to bad at all for me. I wouldn't want to be much taller though.

So I'm assuming the steering wheel is just as close to your legs? I thought it was an odd position, but after sitting in my CRV again it seems like there isn't much more leg room than in the S after all. The CRV would stay for DD, and the longest drive I'd plan would be taking the car down to school (4 hour drive).

I also keep reading in for sale ads about a tilt feature, but carmax said otherwise so I'm guessing there are some mistaken dealer ads out there :/

No tilt on the S. I'm a small Asian but I still find the S isn't a car to get into, you put it on.

Yeah, there is no tilt wheel option on S2000s, and as far as space between the leg and wheel, I would imagine it would be different from person to person, even in the same height range, (different body styles, longer legs).

At 5'11" and being used to small sports cars I have a slight issue with leg room in my S. Currently I am comfortable while driving but 2 things happen; first if I hold the wheel at 9-3 then making quick, tight right hand turns sees the problem that my right leg will actually block my hand from completing the turn of the wheel, solution is to gun it through turns so that my right leg is straighter and out of the way The second issue is that when I get into my car sometimes, if I need to adjust my jacket or pants or whatnot, the movement has on a few occasions caused my right knee to hit my key fob and actually turn the car off.

This spring/summer I intend on lowering my seat (following the diy approach that I found on here) as another half inch/inch at the knees would give me just about perfect positioning.

Also take note that I do not like to stretch to fully depress the clutch, so my seat is not all the way back. If you don't mind the gansta lean you can avoid the above issues by moving the seat farther back, however I do attribute this to the reason while some people grind shifting into 2nd gear only occasionally.

i like what mister x said, you don't sit in the s... you put in on...

haha I don't understand how anyone even marginally taller than me fits in their car. I guess my position is almost ideal and the seat mod may give me that extra little space. I'll be sure to check an S2000 out more thoroughly when i have more time and maybe even meet up with someone who's had the mod done

^PM me if you are in the area and have it done
