Default S2000 Slow??

How does this car feel in the city area or w/o hitting vtec?

Does the car seem slow from a complete stop?

I know this car does 0-60 around 5.2 and 1/4 mile in the mid 14s, but hitting redline is sometime unrealistic in certain driving conditions.

Anyone have any embarassing racing enounters to share?

Tons of threads like this one. Use the search to save folks from repeating themselves, but I can tell ya that essentially there are two cars rolled into one, one VTEC and one below. VTEC is a beast (but it's already rolling). Pre-VTEC, or from a stop, and I feel the S2K is still very robust, as well as neighbor-friendly, but not the rocket that awaits above VTEC. Jekyl/Hyde. Bottom line is the S2K is a roadster, not a dragster, and should be viewed in that light, imo, or you may be disappointed. There are many other cars better suited to street racing. But bang-for-the-buck and smile factor run high at any speed with the S2K.

slow if you think that the boxster is slow...
slow if you think z3 is slow...
not as much low end torque as a v-8 but its not a v-8!
slow is a very relative term- our car is not slow i.m.o.
(especially considering what it does above 6k)!

No, it doesn't feel slow around town. Yes, it has less torque than desired, but the effect of torque is relative to the weight of a car and the S2000 is fairly lightweight. So when I take off at a stop light next to a heavy car, he needs the torque more than I.

And typically the level of torque in the S2K doesn't become a problem until you are actually racing full throttle from a stop. 99% of the time, you don't leave a stop light at full throttle, and neither do other cars. I find that I'm typically the first out of a light for whatever reason and that doesn't feel slow at all.

It's really slow. Don't buy it, especially in blue

It's actually a tame daily driver (easy to use in traffic), once you get used to it though, you can take it from Jekyl to Hyde at will. I've surprised many a 5.0, corvette, etc. Of course there are faster cars out there, but they need V8's to pull it off. Plus when I'm just being leisurely, I can get my s2k to give 26mpg (that of course is not delving into VTEC). It's hands down the best roadster that can be purchased for the 30 to 45 k range.

Embarassing? Yes. If I'm at a stop, and don't know that the guy next to me is going to take off, then I will lose. It takes a second or two of preperation.

If behind a car at a stop light, and trying to keep up after he takes off. You won't keep up(You'll hit the other guy). I always get the jump while launching the S2000, it depends if the engine boggs after that how the run will turn out.

I don't think it feels "slow" at all when driving around town below 6000 rpm. In fact, it feels pretty good and about the same as a miata as far as power is concerned. Above 6k, it is an absolute rocket. As bash said, basically two cars in one, both of which are very fun!
