I never even thought of that scenario!! Wouldn't a dealership require some sort of proof that the car actually is owned by the person getting a key? I guess they could forge some kind of document like registration - but wouldn't the VIN still show up as belonging to the current owner? The thief would need a fake proof of identity saying he was the current owner then wouldn't he????
In theory yes... but people don't always follow rules and regulations that are in place for a reason. It may have been an employee of a dealership that ordered the key after service etc. etc.. etc...

good luck finding a replacement.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Hope you recover the vehicle.
Good luck.

Could've been someone with a spare ECU & matching key (or a aftermarket ECU w/ disabled immobilizer). Swap in the ECU, set the key near the ECU and jack it just like any other car (generally by popping out the key cylinder and using a screwdriver or something to start it).

Sorry about your misfortune. Don't be surprised if the cops just sit on their thumbs, though... they don't seem to be too productive when it comes to this kind of stuff. Hopefully your insurance company will be helpful.

You'd be surprised how little time and space tow truck people need to take your car. If their skilled enough, it is a good chance they got it.

Lojack is a security systm I believed installed in all S2000s(At least what my agent told me when I purchased my car). Basically, if it was working any police department or whatever can track your car to the exact point. Think of it as a tracking device on your car. It is something you have to pay for and since you don't know about it, I'm assuming it isn't turned on. Good luck in resolving this. Hope the best for you.

Lojack is installed in all S2000s? That would be news to me. I had mine installed aftermarket.

Lojack is a dealer add-on or aftermarket option. Most S2000s do not have it installed.

so my s2000 was recently stolen and i know it's equipped with the theft immobolizer (sp?) but the thief didnt take my key, my question is..is it possible for the car to be started/hotwired without the key and if so is it fairly easy to do since in my situation i was gone for less than an hour...any help/info would be appreciated.
Are you the original owner, or did you buy the car used?

If you bought the car used, did you get all 3 keys?

A good tow man can hook up the back of your car and drive off in much less than 60 seconds.

thanks alot for all the comments..yea i didnt purchase the lojack option so i dont have that...the officer dispatched to see if anything was towed from the location i was at and it turned out negative. It could be so many things...just amazed at how fast it was done, starting to think it was planned somehow. My insurance should cover everything but still doesnt bring back my S...now its all a waiting game

Does the phrase "Gone in 60 Seconds" mean anything to you?

Unfortunately, it's not just a catch-phrase. A lot of professional theives can steal a car like ours in less than 5-10 minutes. All it takes is a little motivation.

i am not the original owner and purchased it used...i received only one key as the dealership couldnt find the other so they made an extra for me. It was purchased back in 04 so im sure if the dealership was up to no good they would have taken it a while ago...
