You'd have done better to post this in the U.K. forum. It looks like the U.K. is getting the 'S2000 GT' which at this stage is just the option of ordering the S2000 with the hard top. It looks like some sort of tuning is going to be available for those cars designated 'GT' presumably with warranty support. I wouldn't get too excited just yet. Here's a link to a thread about it on the U.K. Board.

As for a Type R, I would take what the dealer tells you with a pinch of salt until he's taking orders. Honda generally play their cards so close to their chest that dealers find out about changes just after we do!

Your dealer is pulling your leg with all it's strength ... That's all I'm gonna say.

WHOA!!!
Hold it right there! There is no S2000 Type-R. There was a major discussion and a formal letter drafted to Honda America and everything. So far we haven't heard a thing. We have a few members who work within Honda and they haven't said a word either. The dealer is BS'in you. At least he better be, other wise its trade in time! If you want to read the whole thread about our "perfect" concept of a Type-R run a search for S2000 Type-r or the name of the thread starter which was Sev.

The bar to an S2000 type R more than anything is Honda's philosophy of body strength. No type R can even have a sun roof let alone be a convertible. Having said that, big weight savings could be made by using aluminium doors and boot, and other components where practicable, without even thinking about more power. The jump in cost might be more than many would wish to pay though. It would be great whether they chose to call it Type R or G.T. ... Whatever. My gut feeling is a true type R would have a fixed roof

There is a Type V avaialble in Japan, as well as the GT in the UK. However, you got to keep an eye out for Honda Motors as they tend to "R" every vehicle in their passenger car lineup.

Dont forget they sometimes also use the 'Type S' postfix, Prelude Type S, NSX Type S and NSX Type S.Zero.

When they use the 'R' its usually means a much rawer car as in stripped out sound deadening, lightweight seats, windows, etc and usually as Tonky points out chassis stiffening which could be a problem with the S2000's soft top. The type V is Variable Gear Steering (I think it may also include some slight suspension mods but no BHP or weight gains) and by all accounts its an acquired taste.

The new Civic Type R is getting a bit of a slating from some magazines over here in the UK (Evo in particuar) as they claim it does not have the rawness and involvment of the old Integra Type R. Reading between the lines I think they think Honda is just cashing in on the Type R badge and the car is not in the true Type R spirit, it is after all a tarted Mini MPV and as much as they have tried to make it look good it just cant seem to hide its roots. In this weeks magazine it goes up against a Impreza STI, Mini Cooper S, BMW M3 and a Porsche 911 Carrera for the accolade of ultimate drivers car, this test is not about speed but more about the pleasure of driving these cars, sadly the CTR brings up the tail.

If they ever do bring out a 'Type' version perhaps it will be a S2000 Type S, anyone know what the 'S' stands for? Sports?
