Excellent, thanks.... I will print that out and show it to her, then she will realise why I want another S2000

Think about a lot of things. There are some things to think about:
-no trunk when the top is down
-The slk has 200ftlbs of supercharged flatline torque(easier to spin out!)
-It looks like a sports car, but when you drive it you'll notice the steering and handling are those of a luxury car(soft)
-Depending on your interior selection the dashboard has really ugly "carbon-look" stuff all down the dash
Yes I drove it and yes its nice, but other than style they are apple and oranges.

James,

Im horrified you would consider the SLK, you know its a 'blue rinse' car

Also its an auto as standard, how could you ever consider swapping the super slick gear change for an auto. I believe manual may now be available but by all accounts its a poor manual.

I think the answer depends on the type of driver you are, if you like driving involvment then the SLK is going to be a serious dissapointment, it will take you from A to B in comfort but it wont make your pulse race.

Ill give you 6 months with the SLK before you change it

I test drove the SLK 320 before buying a S2000...

Thought it was nice, really like the idea of a retractable hardtop..... BUT.....

I wanted a sports car, it is not a true sports car, IMO, so I went with the HONDA S2000. Haven't looked back, yet and don't think that I am going to either.

Assurel your wife you'll put SO3's on all corners so wet will no longer be the same issue as with the SO2's. Good luck whichever way you go. Tom

A couple of thoughts (my folks have one, and I've driven it at least 6 times).

The SLK has the most amazing top mechanism in the world. It's truly incredible. When down, it's just a convertible. Up it's a sedan. Pretty cool.

You will lose some, but not all, trunk space when the top is down, but it's not too bad. When the top is up, there's lots of trunk room.

It's a luxury car inside (compared to the S2000 anyway).

Handling... Well, this is where it's strange. It has an odd feel in the twisties that is hard to describe. It has quick turn-in, but has a strange "feel" to it. It corners very flat. Not confidence-inspiring.

Engine... Good-torque. But it doesn't feel like a quick engine. It sounds and feels a bit like a turbo-tractor. Not to be putting it down too much, but my brother and I have the same opinion. It doesn't sound great.

Appeal... It gets lots of looks. Especially when dropping or raising the top.

I hope this helps. It's not a BAD car, it's just not MY kind of car.

No No No No, Don't do it. She will end up driving it. Drove an AMG version, was very unstable at speed, let alone in the wet (better off getting a TT Quattro Covertible or Coupe). Owned an '90 500 SL for 3 years, great engine, though not dependable at all, especially the roof. Same with the SLK roof mecahnism though you could use the roof to press your clothes and save some money at the cleaners

You are in Japan, right?

Get a 2002 orange S2000 with blue hood and blue interior (or other color combo we can't get statewide) and show us the pictures!

As to the SLK, last Sat in Bay Area, we had a SLK32 AMG joined our drive. Take a look at this thread:

I like SLK btw, I will get one when I am 50ish.
