Default S2000 vs. 350Z

Thanks for a very informative forum guys!!

I'm in the market for a new car and considering the S2000 and 350Z.

Why should I buy the S2000 over the 350Z? I would appreciate your opinions.

Thanks!!

Maybe you shouldn't.

Drive both, buy the one that you like the best.

Who cares what nissan says... just drive the two and see what you like best. I drove a boxter S as well as the s2000 as well as five or six other cars and felt that it was what i wanted. Just go and test drive.

Buy the s2000 if you really want...
a convertible (no brainer)
a more visceral driving expereince. (This is hard to explain but in the S you feel very integrated into the car and the road - as opposed to feeling insulated. There's a lot of feedback to the driver through all senses. Whether you're charging through canyons and shifting at the 9k RPM redline or just cuising around town, the car becomes an extension of the driver. I know that's a cliche` but I don't know how else to describe it. You must drive one before you decide.)
a really big grin on your face everytime you drive your car

Buy the s2000 if you like...
the idea of an engine screaming at 9000 RPM's
the elegance in the engine design that produces 240 HP out of only 2.0L
the push back into your seat as you cross into VTEC in 1st and 2nd gear
taking the corners you used to take at 15-20 mph at 40 mph
the idea of owning a Honda with it's racing heritage and indusrty leading reputation for reliability

Buy the s2000 if you don't mind...
the limitations of a 2 seater (does the 350z have a back seat?)
limited storage/trunk space
basic amenities, nothing fancy
paying a little more depending on which 350z model you are considering

...otherwise buy the z

Don't you first want to decide if you want a convertible or a coupe with NO SUNROOF?

Wouldn't this be the first decision to make. This was the first decision I made.

Here in AZ if you don't have at least a sunroof it is a sin, so I decided to not even wait for a Z.

Then I decided between a used 01 Audi TT Roadster (225), a used 01 BMW Z3 (3.0), and a new S2000. These cars are all competitors and the prices are similiar.

Note - Both the New TT Roadster (180) and New Z3 (2.5) were still more $$$ than the S2000, but the engines were no match for the S2000.

Easy decision - New S2000

Better Handling
Funner to Drive
New vs Used
Better performance numbers
Nicer Interior

like stated above, first ask yourself if you want a convertible. You can't really go wrong with either one. There will be more 350Z on the roads and after a year or so, it will be like any other car where the S has been out 3 years and still turns heads and people being left confused as to who really makes the S.

As far as styling go, I think the S has the legs, it will be more classic in 10 years and the 350Z with its contemporary styling will age fast as new trends vehicle design emerge.

Ultimately, test drive both if you can or find some local owners to learn about both cars.

krazswede,

Wait to see if the 350z has any bugs.
The first gen. S2000's had some serious recalls.

Overall, I like both cars. Wish the 350z was around for me to test drive when I was buying the s2000!
