S2000 vs 87 911 Targa
Re-posting this from someone who posted on Pelican.
We thought some S2000 owners might have a the opposite bias, so it would be great to hear the other side:

Purchased my 87 Targa in 2009 and was immediately hooked. The driving experience, the porsche community, weekend road trips, autocross, and my competitive nature turned the "slippery slope" into a full blown "Avalanche". Most of my free time was consumed with PORSCHE related activities. Any downtime at work was spent reading Pelican threads and scanning the classified ads for parts on my wishlist. Finally after eight years of ownership and probably over $60k spent on maintenance/upgrades (scared to add up invoices) I have the 911 of my dreams. Now Im contemplating the unthinkable, "replacing" the 911.
It feels almost blasphemous typing, but Im thinking about replacing the 911 with a 2005 HONDA S2000. The S2000 has always been on my bucket list and this week I came across a one owner, showroom condition 2005, with 1,650 verified miles on the odometer. A real time capsule, had to buy it!
Now this is where the confusion kicks in. While I'm excited to own two examples of the finest cars Porsche and Honda produced, the reality is I only have a garage and time for one car.
So here are my options:
1. Sell the 911 (even with the spike in the air cooled market, will still take a loss).
2. Place the 911 it long term storage, $300 monthly storage cost and 20 miles from my home (will most likely still there all year not driven)
3. Place the S2000 in long term storage and hope the value increases more then cost of storage.
4. Keep the 911 and flip the s2000 (putting any profit away for a rainy day).
Opinions......?
If I decide to sell..will have tons of great memories

I'd keep the 911, especially with all the money pumped into it. Nice air cooled cars aren't getting any cheaper.
My dad owns a breathed upon 1970 targa (stroked to 2.4 with E cams and some other goodies) and insists that my AP2 is the best sports car he's driven whenever I go visit. On the flip side I would take his car any day of the week. Old 911s are just absolutely wonderful cars.

Funny I saw that post on Pelican, I had an '88 Carerra Coupe, wish I did not sell it. My 2 cents is the G50 911's (87-89) are at their peak, I think they are WAY overpriced for what you are getting. The 993's went down this road and have since settled down, my opinion is the same will happen to the G50's. With that said I think the owner could get the most return now, he could also keep the S2000 and drive it for several years and probably break even. It is a tough decision for sure. Both great cars!!!! If it were me I would more then likely sell the 911 mostly because of my opinion above.
You have to put aside at least $1500 a year or so for maintenance, unless you have the time to wrench yourself. It might be more then $1500 now, thats about how much it was 10 years ago when I had mine, they are older now so it is probably more. That said they are pretty much bulletproof if you maintain them properly, many go 150-200K without a rebuild. Rebuilds are $$$$$$$$$$
My old man had an 86 carrera back when I was a kid. Many fond memories ripping through the smokey mountains in that flat 6. That engine note is fantastic. I now (finally) own an 02 ap1 s2000. In many ways it reminds me of that classic 911. About the same weight and power and nimble handling characteristics without all the electronic gimmicks which are now the norm. That being said, if I was fortunate to have a cherry version of each, I'd probably move somewhere that had an extra garage space. I'm too frugal to spend money on storage for something that I'm not using, so that's out. If I had to chose one in your position, it would be tough, but I'd keep the s2000. It's still a new car, and these things are bulletproof! Many worry free years ahead, and you've already got the full porsche experience. Please share some pics of the S2000, what a find!

Did he really buy either car to make money?
Sell the 911 now. Enjoy the S2000. It comes down to which one he will enjoy the most. Life is short, do what makes you happy and forget the few dollars spent along the way.
