reliability,

man, German cars a bitch to maintain. I have a BMW E46 as well as this S2k......and the S2K is a HONDA, dont you forget that, so maintanence will not kill you. I had a trunk full of stuff like clothes, suitcases and stuff and when I got the s2k i thought I would have to sacrifice all the storage room. Shoot, I can fit 2 zero halliburtons with a good sized travel bag and still have room. Dont forget the nifty secret compartments in the s2k. get the honda.....i thought about the tt as well. I had a preowned one at work with 2 thousand miles.....quattro 225 cab which was worth well in the 40sssss....owner could not fit into the car so we bought the car for 31 and he was fine.......just to get out of it.

another thing to consider (am i revealing my audiworld.com roots?) is that for 450 bucks, you can chip that TT turbo and do some serious damage. a chip/filter/exhaust APR TT might (and I stress MIGHT) give an S2000 a better run.

Well believe it or not, I'm not planning to add any mods to any car I choose to get. Its not always a smart idea to do that to a leased car. Besides, if I had the $$$ to do major mods, I would just buy a faster car to begin with. From what all of you are saying, the TT is a no go - and yea, I've noticed its kind of a prissy car - plus too many chics drive them. Not that there's anything wrong with that - I'd hate to start a gender war in here.

Ahem-
A reply from a Chick TT owner Gender wars aside- if you do a search for TT you'll see lots of posts about this topic in the past.

My solution is: Buy Both! My TT has 32K on it after 14 months. And the S2k is the race car- she 's a garage queen most of the time. Spending her time on the trailer, on jack stands (her current state) or being flogged on the AutoX course.

If you have to drive a long way in crappy weather buy the TT. Don't worry about the high maintanece bit- that what warranties are for! I have a coupe so i can fit a ton of stuff in it. We've used my TT as the support vehicle for the s2k. 4 tyres a jack and all the other bits fit just fine in there!

The TT costs a lot more because of the fit & finish on the Audi as well as I'm sure the AWD. The justification for spending that much more is apparent as soon as you sit in the car. It's a luxo-barge compared to the s2k. The 225 has a ton more lag than the 180, mods are fun... I could go on & on about the car. But as I said I am lucky enuf to have both. you just have to decide where your priorities are if it's your only car.

I posted this last year in response to someone who was trying to put both in the same "sports car" category-
I own both, 2001 TTQC & 2001 s2k. I do think the TT is a "chick" car. Being a chick I'm ok with that.I AutoXed my TT all this year and have come to the conclusion she's a wonderful luxury "sedan". My 6 month old TT has 17K miles on it. After AutoXing my s2k for the first time 2 weeks ago- well I'm in love with the other woman, she's perfect. But very different cars for different needs.TT = Wife s2k = Mistress. I think they are both very beautiful, just one gets "flogged" a litlle harder than the other.

I had a Stealth TT AWD that I drove in the winter. I can tell you that HP and AWD don't mean didly squat if you don't put snow tires on. I don't know what OEM tires are on the Audi TT but I'll bet they're not snow tires. I have aggressive snow tires on my S2000 and if I were to race a TT with OEM tires on, I'd out accelerate and out stop it on snow and ice without a doubt.

Hello

I'm placing my order for a 2002 S2000 this Thursday after many months of deliberation.

I know lots of TT owners who tend to get bored of them. I've raced in Audi S3's (a TT with an uglier body!) and yes it does go fast and it does have loads of traction but it's dull after a while.

I went out on a S2000 test drive (which lasted 1.5hrs!!) and that made my mind up. The car is great fun! The gearbox has been classed as one of the finest you can get (compared to many more expensive cars in EVO Magazine) and that engine just gets better as you wind on the revs.

Anyway....to put your mind at rest......During the test drive I had a little skirmish with an Audi TT (with a lot of smiles from my Honda dealer in the car ) We blew it away.

I drive an Audi A4 1.8T at the moment and therefore don't have a grudge against them

Hope that helps you make your mind up a little??!!

Beno

Ok well I guess I won't be going to see the Audi dealer anytime soon after these posts. Stupid of me to bring it up in the first place anyway - there's really no comparison between the two. And even if I did have the $$$ for a second car, I'd get a crazy SUV like the Vehicross or something - no need to get another sports car for daily driving.

One new question I have - how have all of you dealt with adding a security system? Anyone here just take the Honda security system, or have you added your own or a LOJAC system?

I've driven both cars, and own (obviously) an s2k. The main thing I liked about the TT vs. the 2000 is the interior. I loved the classy look of the interior and the red glow of the instruments at night. The car also has a better starting platform to install a quality audio system. To do the same with the s2k is expensive and requires some creativity (it can be done though!).

Oddly enough, the two cars have a lot in common. I felt that visibility in both cars was almost the same. Ride height was comparable. Storage space is about the same.

The TT was lots quieter, and the AWD handled well, but the S2k handles great too. I mean really great. Probably better in dry weather conditions.

The TT has a sport car feel, it can get up and go (220hp), but I've never raced against one in my s2k. I'm sure the TT would look great in my rear view mirror though. Although, it's hard to tell distinctive features at such a lengthy distance.

So in the end, I went with the s2k, for modification purposes. I can upgrade lots of things for the 2000, whereas I might be limited with the TT. Plus, I got two red neon lights installed in my s2k to give it the same red glow that I liked so much in the TT! Proof.

I recently made a drive from Boston to Ann Arbor. 900+ miles? I didn't have any discomfort at all, except for the speeding ticket in NY. I don't think long drives are an issue.
