Default S2000 vs Audi TT

Sorry if this has been discussd before, but I can't get the search to work, and am on the road. I drove a S2000 last weekend and can't get it off my mind.

What is the advantage of the S2000 vs the TT, I have had many people tell me the Audi was a much better car.

Thanks for your input.

Michael

Not that it makes any difference, but do you mean the TT roadster? The TT is more luxurious than the S. The S is a "no bones about it" roadster. It has more power than the TT. The S is made to be driven hard and is the closest thing to a race car. The one big advantage I would have to give the TT is its quattro. If you are ever in the snow (Huntington Beach???) than it would be better than the S. Probably the same can be said in the rain as well. Plus, Consumer Reports rated the S above the TT, Boxster, and a host of other performance sports cars.

Yes, I am talking about the roadster, I would only use the car on weekends. I don't think it would ever see snow or rain.

Thanks

TT is a "sporty" car.

S2000 is a sports car.

If you never want to take the car to redline, clip a perfect apex, or practice your heel-toe downshifts when commuting to work, the TT might be a better choice.

If I were you (and I'm not), I'd save some money and get the S2000. When I took one for a test drive, I was immediately sold. Just keep in mind, Honda stressed performance when they designed this car. It isn't cushy and has a lousy sound system, but it runs like it's on rails. And ooooooooh that VTEC.

I've had mine for 15 months and it has never seen snow and just some rain. I only have a little more than 5600 miles on it. I love it as much now as I did when I picked it up.

How can you compare a VW Golf to an S2000? The TT is a Golf with a squashed beetle body on it - nothing more and nothing less.

You can put lipstick on a pig but at the end of the day it's still a pig

FWIW, the Golf/Beetle/TT platform is a solid design. Sure, it's not "race bred" like the S is, but it's very capable nonetheless. There are some insanely high performance Golfs in Europe (not aftermarket tuned but from the factory), not to mention the Beetle RSI... And with AWD (either 4motion or Quattro) it is a really nice package. Yes there are "disadvantages" but it really depends on what you're looking for. The S is sharper out of the box and arguably has a better structure for a high performance auto. The TT wasn't designed purely for that role, but it can be made to fit with a little work, if that's what you're into. Also, it's turbo 1.8L is quite potent and imensely tuneable.

The TT doesn't feel like an Audi because, like the VW Golf, the engine is mounted transversely.

The other Audis, from the A4 on up, have longitudinal engines and four transverse front suspension arms to help eliminate torque steer.
