S2000 Vs. NsX tanny/shifter feel?
S2000 Vs. NsX tanny/shifter feel?
Anyone know which is better.... i've read that the S has the best mass production tranny. The NsX is not a mass prod. car....so can anyone say from experience which has a better feel? I have always wondered!
thanks
Jay

the shift gate on the nsx is very narrow. many stories of people downshifting incorrectly (ie in 5th and go to 2nd). it is a cable shifter, so there really isn't a lot of feedback in the shifter, however, it is very smooth w/o notchiness. 6th gear is activated w/ a solenoid i believe, which i don't understand 100% yet.
overall, i think they feel similar, w/ the s2000 throws being shorter (from 1->2 or 3->4) but the nsx shifter feels smoother and the gate seems to suck the shifter in (less shifting effort).
can't say if one shifter is "better" or not, its more opinion biased.

i drove a 91 quite often a few years ago and from what i remember it was very similar feeling to the s2000 gearbox. having gotten used to the s2000 shifts however i must say the s2000's is silkier and more precise. it could have been the nsx had more wear on it but i remember it clunked into gear harsher than the buttery shifter on my s2k.

As the owner of both cars, the NSX feels more "positive" when it goes into gear, like you know it is definitely in gear. The S2000, has a very short throw, to the point that when I first got it, I wondered if it was in gear when I shifted from 1st to 2nd. A more "positive" feel would have helped this.
Both shifters are much better than anything else I've tried, and I think both are frequently cited as the benchmarks for shifter feel.

I think the clutch is softer in the S2000, a little easier. It would be hard to say which shifter I like better. As I have mentioned in other S vs X threads, the overall driving experiences are greatly different -- but, I truly think the S is a baby NSX. Love both cars...

I believe the NSX feels a lot better. At least the one i get to drive.
The shift pattern is so precise (MY92 5spd), narrow, and so effortless, its amazing. Makes my S feel somewhat sloppy in comparison. My only complaint is the manual steering and the tough clutch pedal. A bad car for stop n' go driving unless you want a buff left leg and popeye arms (it does have an upgraded Exedy clutch).

I much prefer the feel of my old S2000 shifter than my current NSX shifter. Not that the NSX's isnt good, its very good, but its not *the best*.
The S2000s was the best Ive used.
