s2000 vs. a Telephone pole
Judging from your description of damage, I don't think the speed at impact was more than 15 mph... A full front impact against an immovable object spread across the front of the car at 30 mph does quite a bit of damage - typically reducing the length of the car by about 12+ inches. If you focus the force to just the width of a pole and have similar damage, you could not have been going that fast at impact...

I have always heard stories about the guy who, if he would have been wearing his seatbelt, would have been crushed or burnt in the car, but was tossed clear of the car because he wasnt wearing one. I am sure there are instances that someone may have gotten a broken nose or friction burn from an airbag. When it comes down to it, these are the exception and airbags are a God-send. I would take my chances on getting a broken nose or sore neck than all my teeth knocked out.

Just curious, do you have an aftermarket stereo in the car?
When I had my stereo out this past weekend I noticed the shiney gold connectors under it, so I looked a little closer. The SRS (airbag) control circuit (or one of them) is located right under the stereo. I would wonder if something in an after-market stereo or the install somehow screwed up the airbags?

Just an update for those following. The Honda "rep" said the airbag wasn't supposed to deploy at speeds lower than 30 mph. Anyone know if that is true? All i know is I hit it hard and had i not been wearing a seatbelt, I might not be here to type this......
Hi guys, I own a '02 S2000 in Italy. I was involved in an accident (rear ended some one) and both airbagsseatbelts deployed. I can't beleive that Honda didn't install a sensor which prevents the passenger's airbag and belt from deploying if no one is sitting there. I think that would have saved me a lot of
