S2000 Warranty - should I keep it?
One thing to consider, if getting the warranty, do you plan on keeping the engine stock? Because if not, I am not sure they would honor the warranty.
It's a tough call, I would say if you think you will end up putting 50,000 or 60,000 miles on it in six years and plan on keeping the engine stock it might be worth it. Sure, the S2000 is a reliable car, but no sports car is truly 100% bulletproof in every way. I would try to get the warranty down to $1,500 if possible, and then would say if you actually plan on racking up the miles it would be worth it for reassurance.

Its not worth it, you and I both know that your car will not stay stock for to long and they don't cover shit, stock or not. They will give you a hard time, trust me on that one. Let me tell you a short story.
I pick up my 08 S2K in 2011 and they said I had to pay for this extra warranty (same one your telling us about). At first, I said I don't want it and they said we cant sell you the car without it. So they lowered the price to 1500 and I took it. But Honda F with the wrong person, I do sales for a living. I know how this game works. So they tried to play me, but they got played.
2 weeks after owning the car, the top started to tear. So I brought it back and what did they say "warranty doesn't cover that". I had the bulletin and all about the soft top. They had the Honda rep come down and said help him out. So they tried to have upholstery shops do this liner (I knew it couldn't be done from the start), 3 shops later, nothing. Called Honda USA, the big boss from CA there gave me a hard time on the phone. I called that SOB every single day until he dealt with the issue. He knew me by name and so did the service manager at the dealer. 2 months later, brand new soft top with the frame free of charge. Soft top with all the labor at a dealership, call it 3500 bucks. I already got my 1500 bucks back.
Next, a year later, check engine light comes on. Brought it back and find out the O2 sensor and CAT are no good. They said I have a 7 year warranty bumper to bumper and made them cover it again. Honda OEM CAT is 1000 dollars plus the O2 sensor and labor. Lets call it 2000 bucks.
Now we are at 5500 bucks
Last one - I have an 08 car, so my car has TPMS. One of the TPMS sensors went bad. Brought it back in again and service manager says I don't think its covered. Really, not covered, I got this warranty you guys said covers everything. Since they knew I was a pain and I don't stop. I will make your life hell. They made 1 phone call and that shit was covered free of charge. Sensor is like 80 bucks plus 2 hours of labor since they have to program it. Labor is like 105 at that dealer. So 290 total.
Now with all that, we got a grand total of 5790. I was required to buy this warranty (they said it was a special Honda). So Honda tried to play me, but I played them and had the last laugh all the way to the bank.
Now doing what I did requires a lot of patience and most people will just give up. You don't give up, you bring them hell and you see how things change quickly.

^Guess I forgot how much of a pain it is to get them to honor the extended warranty. Still sounds like it was worth it for you in the end though, but probably not for most people who get one. Of course, if you had an independent shop do the repairs, it would have been closer to half that amount in the end (though out of your pocket).
Worked out for me but had to rattle the cage. Soft top, radio, differential mount bushing, roll hoops. Atlantic honda new me well and so did J.
Edit: I should mention that mine was $1500. IMO it was worth the peace of mind.

Depends on how confident you are in doing things on the car yourself. With that low of a mileage, as long as it checks out before you buy it, warranty isn't needed. Plus, the information and folks on these boards are more than enough to help you do it all.

Same here. Bought mine new 12 years ago. Three repairs were done under the original warranty. Top after a tear, driver window motor regulator (minor - auto down wasn't working right) and the clutch master cylinder when it started leaking. My $1400 7 year extended warranty went completely unused. No repairs since, either. Just regular maintenance. These are amazingly reliable cars, in my experience.
