S2000: Will it be reliable for the everyday use?
Hi.
I live in Madrid, Spain. [Europe] (Sorry about my english...)
Now I have a Porsche 944'84 170CV for the weekend and a tiny and oldie $500
Renault-5 for going to work and move on the city.
I'm tired of live the day by day in the crappy Renault... the 944 is getting
old and i'm not happy with it outside the highways...
So I want ONE (only one, not two) car, a car that give me similar pleasures
than the Porsche, and that can be enjoyed everyday.
And it have to be a roadster.
I've thought in a Mazda Miata 1.8, then an MG-TF, but the TFs are terribly
rough finished and the Miata's cockpit is terribly small. I don't like the
BMW Z3 or the Alfa's and Fiat's roadsters.
I never look about a S2000 'cause I thought it was in the price-range of the
Boxster, but... I found that there are year 2000 S2000's with 15000 Km
(about 10K miles) at the same price of a new Miata 1.8 or a MGTF...

The question is:
you should be fine, try and check to see if it still has the warranty, that is an added plus. I use my 2002 as a daily driver and no probs so far (3500miles), personally I think it is a much better car than the Miata, go for it if you can find a good one with a warranty.
Tambien, yo estudio el espanol aqui en mi universidad, tengo mi examen final el proximo Viernes y entonces necesito practicar. Buena suerte con tu buscando para un S2000. Mi espanol no es perfecto, pero no es muy mal...Hasta Luego

oh and I actually had a 944 before my S2000 too...
and to answer the mechanic question, no you won't be replacing things very often, just as you would on any sports car if you drive it hard, my Dad has 10,000 miles on his and nothing has been replaced yet and doesn't look to need replacing any time in the near future either.

We got ours in May, 2001, so it's nearly one year old and has almost 23,000 miles (38,000 km) on it. Shortly after buying it I was in a Border's book store and came across the current Consumer Report's Auto Buying Guide. Naturally, I looked up the S2000 as well as its closest rivals: Z3, SLK, Boxster, TT Roadster. Of the group, only the S2000 and the Z3 were recommended. The Porsche had no reliability data (odd!), the Mercerdes, the Bimmer, and the Audi were about average in reliability, and the S2000 was listed as exceptionally good.
The upshot: it's a Honda. When it has 150,000 miles (250,000 km) it will still be running strong.
(Start a fund for tyres, though. You'll wear them out quickly!)

Almost 35k miles in 15 months, nothing replaced due to need (had TSB 54 done, but I don't consider that a need as the car ran fine before the TSB. IMO the buzzing is cosmetic, and not a "real" problem with the car, although it was annoying as I use compression braking a lot). It's been just as reliable as the previous Civic I had so far.
Thanks everybody!!
Damn!, I can't find a reason to avoid buy one!
There have to be something... i don't know...
Really is such a so-perfect car??
My 944 needs to change all the belt system each 50Km. (30K miles) !!!
What about the S2000 lack of torque ??
And the lack of clock?
And the lack of a place to put the papers...?
And the twin exhaust system...?
And the red butto....
Damn!! I WANT THIS CAR !!!

I bought mine new in March 2000. I drive it everyday. 24,000 miles with no problems, so far. Like a few others, I did have 3 or 4 TSBs done under warranty. This is to be expected with a first year car. I have been extremely pleased with the S2000. I drive mine no matter what the weather is. You do have to be careful in rain and ice, but anyone who doesn't know that, is an idiot
