Default S2000 or WRX?

So its time to get my 2nd car and im torn. I cant decide between a 00-03 s2k or a 02-03 Subaru impreza WRX. The WRX is alot more practicle especially for me since I live in Chicago and the winters are brutal, also I drive around 2 friends alot. But I really love the s2k. Which one do you guys think I should get

Sounds like the WRX would make more sense. S2k is more fun to drive by far, at least for me though. But not good for winter and of course can't haul around 2 extra people in it. If you have another daily then get the S, if not go for the WRX.

Generally an s2000 is a good first car, while the WRX would be the good winter/second car. What is your primary car now? Just curious.

Move down south, buy the S2000.

I DD my 03 S2k for 3 years in the NW Chi-burbs, and you have to spend so much time under 6k with winter tires, it is painful. Doable for sure, but if your stuck up north, I would suggest the WRX.

If your not familiar with lightweight RWD without electronic nanny aids (VSA), your odds of being stranded, or in a ditch are pretty high.

Also, if you have more than 3-4 inches of snow, your screwed. The biggest problem IMO is the curved snow ruts in intersections and ice block/chunks all over the roads. As you know, you can see a ice chunk on the side of the road in november, and it may still be there in march.

What's most important to you? That should give you your answer.

I would not own an S2000 in a climate where it snowed more than a few days each winter. Having to store the car for the winter sucks and having to drive carefully around on snow tires just hoping some idiot won't smash into you is no fun.

imho I would. Driving an S three months out of a year is better than not driving an S at all.

I dont see a problem with S2000 and winter...This would be my first winter in S2k, but I already had E46 M3 and E92 335i in Boston winters. I also regularly go skiing to NH, VT, and ME.

I already bought used set of LM-60s and will be putting them on sometime in December area with constant temps below 40F

I guess that's true but if you are paying on the car and required to keep it insured while registered for 9 months out of the year that you can't even drive it...that does not sound worth it.

We are spoiled in the south and even mid-atlantic. There are maybe 2 weeks per winter unsuitable for S2000 driving due to snow or icy roads.

You answered your question with your post. The WRX makes more sense to you for now. In most cases, the need you have will win over the want.
