I've had the car for almost 2 months now and I fill it up once a week on avarage. Each time I do I work out my fuel consumption (ie. Fuel (going in) divided by the km (travelled since the the last fill up )and multiplied by 100).

Anyway, I'm finding that my average fuel consumption is about 13.5 liters/100km. Lowest I've dipped is 12.5 and that is with almost no 'hooning'. 80% of my driving is on 'need to get somewhere basis' and is your standard city driving while the other 20% is me having fun. Also, we have summer here so the fuel consumption will be greater when it cools down.

Anyone else keeps tabs on these things? If so, what's your consumption?

ps. Anyone knows what the consumption is on a track? I know that my old MR2 could easily consume 18Liters/100km while on a racing track.

25 to 27 mpg. Drive 14 mi, one way. About 12 at highway speeds (70+) balance is local.

13.5 L/100 Km seem low. In US units that works out to about 17.4 mi/gal. I believe on average everyone is getting at least 20 mpg.

Maybe that Aussi gas has more additives that hurts milage.

What do you pay per liter down under?

In the states we pay around $1.50/gal for Premium fuel (the state of Georgia has some of the lowest gas prices). Currently 1 USD = 1.89 AUD and 1 L = 0.264 US gal. So that would be equal to you paying about 0.75 AUD/L. I bet that sounds cheap to you!!!

I've been tracking mileage on my car for a year. It has ranged from 27.7 mpg on a highway trip down to 10.3 mpg on the track. It's average (not including the track) is 25.3 mpg in 12,500 miles of driving.

BTW, your fuel consumption seems pretty high. If I convert 13.5l/100km I get 17.4 mpg.

I got a little over 24 mpg during break-in...I'm sure it's going to be MUCH lower in "normal" use!

25 mpg = 9.5 l/100km - wow!! I have never driven/owned a car here that could do that in city or 'agressive' driving. My old MR2 did about 11.5 l/100km, my dad's HSV R8 (5.7 l V8) needs about 16 l/100km, the TVR Cimerra needs about the same. MX5 needs about 10.5 l/100km ... I think maybe a Civic could do 9.5l/100km here.

S2k Dude, "...13.5 L/100 Km seem low. ..." - do you mean 'high'? ... 20 mpg = 11.8 l/100km - so I pressume you ment to say "high". 11.8 l/100km is something I had hard time getting out of the MR2 - when I took it to a track I was getting about 18 l/100km (which is 13.1 mpg) In city and 'spirited' driving I got somewhere between 11 and 12.5 l/100km. On a freeway I could do 8 l/100km (29.6 mpg) with the MR2.

I'm guessing that if I took the S2000 to the track then I'd be doing abut 22 l/100km (10.7mpg). With my normal city driving (and some 'spirited' driving) I'm getting 13.5 l/100km (17.5 mpg) fairly consistanlty.

A$0.75 for premium would be nice and cheap here ... we pay about A$0.9 to A$1.05 per liter of premium fuel here ... not cheap :-( That is almost US$2/gal.

David,

I do mostly city driving here in the States. Lots of traffic, etc. Location is sea level with temps usually in the 10-25C range (50-77F). Car has 17,000 km (10,500 miles) on the odometer

My typical in town mileage is around 12.5 l/100km (18.5 mpg) and it climbs into the 10 l/100km (22-23 mpg)range when I mix in some significant freeway driving.

The best the car ever got for me was a little better than 9 l/100 km (26 mpg) on a 500 mile, 95% freeway trip. The worst I've ever gotten was about 13.5 l/100km (17 mpg).

What is interesting to note is that after I added the Mugen header at 5000 km (3000 miles), my gas mileage decreased consistently by 1-2 mpg. Prior to the header I was averaging closer to 11.5 l/100km (20 mpg) in town. I am an avid VTEC fan as well and tend to drive one gear shorter than I need to.

Almost all my driving is in-town, and I get an average of 15mpg. I've seen 25mpg once, under perfect circumstances, but it is no where to be seen if I'm not on the Interstate.
With all due respect, I do drive my car hard. I take it out at least once a week on the local serpentine backroads. I'm over 120mph every week as well. My gas mileage seems to be getting a little better these days, don't really know why, don't really care. It's all just part of having a real sports car. I'd hate to see the mpg on a V8 Firehawk or the like.

I get 20 mi/gal if I'm lucky. I enjoy Vtec and spend a lot of time there...
