Default S2k 1 month review

Well, I've had my little S2k for a month now so I thought I'd give it a small write up.

I bought my S2k used, 00 year with 25k miles. Well I've put about 1400 miles on it since then. First off the car has 0 and I mean ZERO play in the wheel. I love that! When I twitch it twitches.

The MYTH that you have to rev this car over 6k rpm's to get it to move is just that, a MYTH. Under 6k rpm it still accelerates better than 90% of the 4 cylinder cars out there. Over 6k rpm I'll quote Homer Simpson "Hang on and feel the G's!". (Quote from Simpsons episode where Homer changes his name to Max Power).

I do need to buy some new tires. It still has the original Bridgestones and they aren't what they used to be.

For a final bit of info, I've spent thousands on trying to make my old cars drive and feel like the S2K and none of them ever accomplished it. I've driven the TOYota MR2S and while it turns on a dime... it might take you half the day to accelerate enough to make it fun. Besides that the S2k is awefully damn close in cornering ability. My old 02 eclipse GT... well no comparison so I'll move on.

Well, I'm typed out.

Laters.

LOL. I was just getting ready to post something along these exact lines -bought my car on 9/9/03, new and have put about 2700~ miles on her already. Loving it!!!

A couple of things to add - I notice that on long trips of over 1-2 hours, ear plugs and drinking water are a necessity for me. Dehydration through condensation is a killer, and you'll never know it till it's too late.

Very little overall oil consumption, probably around 3/4 a quart thus far. Lots of mixed driving in traffic and at highway speeds and the car is a gem. I'm loving every minute of it, and it's time for the weekly wash tomorrow!! Strange, but this is the first car I've truly enjoyed washing! I continue to catch myself staring at her in the parking lot and just enjoying the hell out of owning an S.

Just something to add, my S has 3000 miles now. Initially people don't like the tight suspension/dont expect it. You get used to it and eventually love it... for some reason when i sit in BMW's now I can feel the car moving up and down on the road where before I thought THAT was the norm. I feel weird in comfort cars now...

I SURE hope you folks with 26k and 27k on original tires know how to read the wear bars on your tires. I simply can not imagine the rear tires (fronts ok, maybe) lasting that long without taking serious chances while driving it. My rears were worn out at 12k and that seems to be about the 'norm' for the rears, with the fronts lasting 2 times longer than the rears.

even without autoX'ing or tracking the car....
even with only street driving and "occasional" spirited driving....

if you do a search you will notice that s2000 wrecks (especially weather related) fall into 2 main categories
1)WORN TIRES (check out the s02 review from a "knowledgable" s2000 owner on tirerack.com . he had 20-25k on his s02s and spun on the highway

2) driver error, i.e. lifting in a turn

Yes I know what the little wear markers are and there is still some good life left in the tires.

Maybe the previous owner swapped them out at some point but doesn't really look it. On the flip side I'm probably going to replace them with Yokohama DB's in the next 2 weeks or so. I don't like summer tires, too soft and I drive alot. Besides the last set of DB's I owned had amazing grip wet or dry with some snow grip to boot.
