Default S2K available in Indonesia?

So the wife and I finally get the credit cards paid off, sell my truck, and establish a nice little down payment for my future S2K. But then she goes and gets a great long term job in Indonesia!

Sigh...

I'm almost certain that I will have to join her at some point so my question is this, should I buy an S to play with in the mean time or should I wait till I get to Indonesia? Of course, that's assuming it's sold over there.

I would just get it here in the United States, the car in Southeast Asia are so expensive. For instance, my sister just bought a brand new W211 E220 CDI in Thailand and it costs her about 4 millions Thai baht, which is about 105,000 USD. That is pretty much the bottom of the line E-Class that are offer by Mercedes-Benz of Thailand. Forget the S2000, the 2.4 Camry costs about $43,000 USD, new Civic 4 doors costs around 32-33,000 USD, Honda Jazz/Fit costs about 22-24000 USD and heck the new M5 costs around 15 millions baht (about 392,000 USD), and a Ferrari 430 costs around 22 millions baht (about 600k USD). Ferrari Enzo in Thailand and it costs around 2.3 millons USD!!!!!

Honda Thailand brought about 10 S2000 last year for sale from Japan and they only managed to sell only 4 of them last year. It costs roughly about 4.2 millions baht gives or takes a bit, which is around $110,000 USD. With the same money, most Thais would just buy a Z4 2.2 or SLK 200 K

Hi

Im not sure which part of Indonesia you are talking about, but if its Jakarta or other bigger cities you will never get to take the top down due to the pollution and the risk of people hijacking your car or rob you at the traffic etc.

If its something like Bali you should be ok though...

And yes like mentioned before the price of an S2000 will be very expensive there, dont quote me but im guessing itll be 2-3 times more exp than you would pay in the US.

Having said that , I have seen S2000 over there, even nsx...

Yeah, I wonder that I would even want a small car there at all, much less a convertible. Road quality, traffic, air quality, weather, crime, etc - doesn't seem too hospitable to me.

In Indonesia, many people have their own driver and house servants. It's a terrible place to drive a car let alone a sports car, and goodluck finding high octane fuel that is consistent.

However, one thing to keep in mind is that European cars may cost much more on a relative basis than Japanese cars in some parts of Southeast Asia. For example, a BMW 328i and Lexus RX 330 would cost you about the same in the United States, whereas the BMW would run for 70% or so more expensive in Hong Kong.

As far as importing the car from the United States ... I'm not sure what the tax rates are in Indonesia. You might actually end up paying more for shipping + taxes. I would spend some time to check with the local DMV-equivalent to make sure what you are up for.

Good luck

I dont think you want to drive that car in indonesia.. none honda indonesia know how to maintainance that car and most s2000 in indonesia is only for show car

most ppl who have s2000 in indonesia is either they own an imoprt and export licscene company or a high ranked corruptor official ;p , but of course there is always a way to get around if you got the money and connection....

example ship to other port instead of jakarta.. but you need under table money type of connection

Man, that sucks, Indonesia. I almost took a job over there as a Field Service Eng. With the growing muslims population and the sanitary condition, plus the weather is very, very hot.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about having a convertible over there. Good luck.
