Edmunds is reporting the base will go from $32.3k (before $.4k destination) to $36.3k effective 1/11/2001. Apparently they are not concerned about a slowing economy and slowing sales!

EDITED: READ NO FURTHER. This is incorrect.
SO SORRY - MY MISTAKE. I mis-read the web site.

I think that is fair...That is just the increase in the cost of doing business. In addition, you have to take in the rate of inflation.

OK. hold up.

i jus checked www.edmunds.com - there is not significant price increase. the $36.3k that you quote is their "TMV" - True Market Value. This "TMV" is valid UNTIL 1/11/2001, at which point I suppose they (edmunds) will reevaluate the "TMV" of the Honda S2000.

Geez, don't scare me like that next time! (I'm a potential '02 s2k owner)

The value that you quote, from http://www.edmunds.com/newcars/2001/honda/...onvertible.html is the "True Market Value", described at http://www.edmunds.com/edweb/tmv/index.html
. MSRP is one of the influencers of their TMV metric. So basically, its what the car's "value" is, based on Supply/demand, prices that it has actually been bought at and other factors. And that TMV that quote is effective UNTIL 11JAN2001, when I presume they will release an updated number based upon the most recent data they have.

So, enough with the FUD

[EDIT] It appears that VIOLATION and I both shed light at about the same time. anyway, what we said.[/EDIT]

hey, so that means if we bought our stook for mrsp, then we made a profit on the car according to the TMV right?

TMV is the value of a car on the market. In this case, Edmund's is saying (in it's opinion), that a brand-new s2000 is worth 12.4% more that MSRP. IOW, dealers can mark it up that much on the average and be able to move it. Whether or not we agree with that number personally is another matter <chuckle>

Ok... so does this affect the MSRP at all? In other words, should I cancel my order at the dealership scheduled to come in in a month or two and run out and find one before the 11th?

I don't think you should have to do that..if I'm correct, this is just Edmunds opinion..it's all supply and demand i guess..well if your dealer will sell to you at MSRP then you're lucky, but most likely they'll probably jack the price up a bit so that can somemore money..
