S2K, Boxster S, or M Roadster
What's up? I new to the forum and had some questions for all you S2K Gurus...
First a little background. I'm an Air Force ROTC cadet who is most likely going to be stationed in FL after graduation which is not too far off. Since I am going to be stationed in the sunny southeast, I decided that I am going to get rid of my 1984 Porsche 944 and get a drop top. Right now I'm looking at BMW M Roadsters, Boxster S, and S2Ks. I realize that this is an S2K forum so the responses that I get are going to be slightly biased but I have posted threads on BMW and Porsche forums as well. So now onto the questions.
1) How is the S2K as a daily driver?
2) I've heard that the cars are pretty prone to snap oversteer. Is this really a problem?
3) If you were in my shoes and could get any of the three cars which one would you get??

2) No.
3) The S2000
Welcome Cadet! First, thanks for your service.
1. You can handle it as a daily driver.
2. Oversteer is over rated. Not a problem at all. Really good steering compaired to most sports cars.
3. I had a Boxster S befor my S2K. The Boxster is great but equally equiped it will be 20+ grand more. The S2k is just as fun and fast but no Porsche status. The S2k has It's own status which is different but just as satisfying for me. The BMW has no advantage over the Box or the S2K.
Note: All that matters is what makes you happy, they are all good cars.

If anyone has driven any combination of the 3 I would like to hear what you all have to say.
I'd go S2000, but this is an S2K forum, so go figure.
A coworker just got a great deal on an '04 Boxter, since the '05 is all new. The '04 Boxter S will still be more than the S2K even with the discount, but it's worth a look. I don't know enough about the M roadster to give a useful recommendation one way or the other.
What's your price range? S2K is the best sports car under $35K, hands down.

I owned a '97 Z3 a while ago. Not exactly in the same league performance wise as an M-roadster, but some comparisons between that and my spankin' new (well, new to me) S2K are worthwhile.
I always felt that the Z3 was delicate...I guess I have felt this way about several of my cars. I just ditched a '01 Jetta 1.8T for the S2K. Anyways, I always felt like the Z3 was going to break or something when I drove it hard. Nothing really concrete, but just rattles/squeaks, and the vibe of the car, I guess. After 3 days in the S2K, I don't get that vibe at all. This thing WANTS to go. I mean, the workable rev range in daily driving is getting close to the redline of the Jetta and the old Z3...I just love how the S2K feels like a wound up puppy, just waiting to take off after a frisbee or something. No experience with a Porsche, besides an aunt who drove one into a restaurant window when she was drunk. And I wouldn't expect stunning reliability with the Box. Which is something you should get in spades with the S2K. Value-wise, S2K wins hands down. You simply can't beat it for the price. And resale value seems pretty strong, based on my fresh experience with the resale market.
Bottom line: kick ass car, great reliability, and great value. That's 3/3. With the others, you're getting 2/3 tops.
