I think they're referrring to when the car hits vtec, where hp is is a lot more. Due to the weight of the car, in comparison it might feel like you're driving a civic if you where to shift around 3-4 k rpms. I've notice it being quicker then a civic should I shift above 4k rpms. Its all according to how the driver drives their car I believe, if you're a conservative driver then the accleration might feel like a civic.
As for handling however thats a different story, I've only had a few experiences driving a manual civic, but the handling is no where near as good as the s2k. Well this is just my opinion so no flamin please. Civics are great cars, but to me they just seem more of a econ car rather then a sports car. With the exception of the SI and the type R of course.

I owned an '00 Civic and it is NOTHING like an S2000. Even if you're only shifting at 3-4k rpm the S2000 is substantially quicker. Maybe not compared to a 160 HP Civic Si, but to your run-of-the-mill Civic there is certainly a huge difference.

"What do you guys think about this comparison?"
I think this person has spent very little (if any) time behind the wheel of an S2K.
There is no comparison... not even with the Civic Si.
Yes, the pre-VTEC range gives a more docile feel but it's still much more peppy than any stock Civic.

Well it depends. I've owned a B16 swapped civic for a while and my girlfriend has a 2003 Si. The S is way peppier than the B16 at any rpm. No comparison there. When compared to the 2003 Si, the S is definately not as torquey. I swear that thing is like an electric car.

I owned a 97 EX Civic w/Vtec and it's nothing comapred to my s2k. I haven't even vtec'd my S yet. The Civic wasn't a slug but it's unfair to even mention them together in the same sentence.
