Hi, I'm new to this board, since I just decided to buy an S2000...looking for one sure hasn't been a pleasant experience. I'd appreciate any tips y'all may have on where I might be able to find a yellow one in Texas @ MSRP, preferably w/ a dealer who will do an "in and out". I have a '97 Supra Turbo that I can sell for more than the S2K, so I'd like to make it a tax free transaction.

I thought I had found such a deal in Dallas. A friend in the car biz there arranged it, and I was going to do the deal next weekend. Late Friday afternoon, he discovered the car had fallen off the transport! He went to look at it, and the right wheels were off (they'd cracked), the bumper was off, and they were in the process of replacing a valance panel under the door. No thanks, I'd rather pay more or settle for another color than take a risk w/ that car. Dealers here in Austin want $38-$44K for a similar car now, or I can pay $1K over @ Classic and wait 6-8 months. On Saturday, I called every dealer in Houston...there must be 20 total in stock, but they're all being greedy. I'm sure many of you have had to deal w/ this, but it sure is frustrating.

BTW, anyone here switch from a high-power/torque car like the Supra TT, Corvette, etc.? If so, I'd appreciate your perspective on the change...I know I'll miss my Supra, but lately it seems like overkill for the street (mine has 404 rwhp/400 lb.ft.tq.), esp. as Austin traffic continues to become more dense.

TIA for any advice!

Well, it's pretty heavily modded (nearly $60K total invested in engine, susp, brakes, wheels, & stereo/alarm), and the original owner regrets selling it and is dying to buy it back. Our deal is $36K or $34.5 if we do an in and out. I have another guy very interested in it @ $38K. (the orig. owner is getting a deal since he's a friend/ex-boss and he made me a helluva deal when he sold it to me).

He can easily sell it for that if it's in good shape. Those Supra twin turbos are in good demand.

In comparison to the S2000, there is none....in acceleration. The Supra is a brute in terms of power

Chris,
You can find 2001 Stooks for sale on ebay at msrp, you just have to go get them. Might just find the color you want and not real far away. Type "honda s2000" in the ebay search.

[green]Chris:
First Welcome.
Second Welcome another fellow Austinite.
Third.Try S2Ki.com
They keep a running board of dealers selling for MSRP. The problem is going to be the delivery date. Most MSRP deals will require a wait.
I bought mine from Frank Kent Motors in Ft. Worth. They may have additional allottments left at MSRP, but there will be a wait. Number is 800-553-2111. Ask for Wendy or Tonya. Mention this board. [/green]

Chris,
I still have a C5 and now a new S2000 (I know, I know..). The S2K is the anti-corvette. Different in almost every way, most enjoyably in terms of (low) mass and (high) revs. While I still enjoy the torque of the corvette, the Honda is absolutely more fun to drive.

If you're willing to go to Dallas, I know Lute Riley Honda has 5 or 6 in stock. both new/used. I got mine new from there for $35,500, but you may be able to negotiate a better deal.

I live in Dallas. I called literally every single honda dealer in Texas, some in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana looking for this car. I happily offered to pay MSRP, wanted absolutely no, zero, none, options and no one was willing to part with the car for that. Lute Riley honda in particular disgusted me. FYI, they have 7 on the lot that they quoted a minimum price of 35,500 on. Something about the principle of the thing, but I am not willing to give the dealer that large of a profit. Not that I am against profit making, but gouging is offensive. Anyway, no one would sell the car for MSRP (oh some would say they would and then insist on adding spoilers here, cd changer there, clear coat, etc and marking up the price $3-4k)

I finally called Joe Zawatski of Honda of Mentor, Mentor Ohio. He sold me the car at MSRP + shipping. No options, not addons no nothing. Shipping will be @$700. The car was built last monday and should hopefully arrive in late february, early march. Just in time for spring. In any event, it gave me great pleasure to just not buy from a gouging dealer. Lute Riley in particular will not get any business, service or otherwise, from me or anyone who asks me.
