Default s2k speedometer error?

I have attempted to verify my s2k's speedometer by myself with some difficulty by using my wristwatch and mileposts for time to distance calibration method. I believe that I had found that my speedo reading about 61 to 62 mph to cover one mile in sixty seconds. Road & Track road tests until early 90's used to include speedo error for model road tests, none for its s2k test. Any other driver observations or results?

i would have to imagine that your method for testing the speedo is just as far off if not farther off than the speedo itself.

I've gone through a couple of "your speed is___" radar zones and each time it has been exactly right-on.

Based upon my GPS speed trap detection/indication device, RoadAngel, my S2k reads 2mph too high at 60mph and 4mph at 100mph.

This is normal. My '01 was off by +6 at 100MPH according to my K-15/II radar gun. However, according to Honda, a +/- 10% difference is acceptable. I have a copy of this memo from my Honda dealer. I can post it to the forum. I have used this memo to help 2 people reduce speeding tickets to minor improper equipment violations. An Ace in the hole!

My GPS tests indicate the same error.

Most vehicle speedos are inaccurate and the accuracy will vary as your tyres wear (think about it - less distance travelled for each rotatiuon of the wheel).

Compared with motorcycles, however, car speedos are EXTREMELY accurate. My Suzuki speedo reads 14% optimistic whilst the odometer is spot on. This means that Suzuki deliberately introduced the speedo error but other bikes are just as bad.

Had the car dyno'd and the actual speed was spot on with the speedometer reading right up to the rev limiter. The dyno guy said he was surprised how accurate the speedometer is on the S.
