Default S2k trunk water leak common?

Hey whatup everyone, this may have been asked before and I know there is a diy to fix it butttt.. is water leak in the trunk under the jack/tools common on these cars?

Here is a little info,

Ive been looking for an s2k for the past 2-3 months now so far ive seen around 10 from a 2000 ap1 with 30k original miles to a 2005 ap2 with 50k and they ALL leaked water in the trunk right under the jack.. none of them had been rear end and some of them had the original soft top in perfect condition.. but like I said they ALL had the same exact leak! Which made the interior smell not so good... Now Is this very common or am I unlucky? I dont know what to do because thats a real deal breaker for me since these cars cost so much and I dont want to have something leaking and when I go to fix it be full of rust from all the years of water damage but I really want this damn car Lol

Does your trunk leak?

Anyone help/suggestions would be helpful:-)

The vent in the back is a possibility or improper replacement of the top can cause it too. My first S2K was a 66K car that had the top replaced and it leaked like a sieve because whoever did it left the rain rail off. My second S2K still has the original top and does not leak at all.

If you do a search, there are multiple threads indicating possible causes of leaks and how to address those. As far as rust, that will depend on how long it has been leaking and how often it accumulated water in the trunk from the leak(s).

This thread and it's attachments should help resolve your water woes. Water in the trunk is caused by improper maintenance, repairs or a recent soft top replacement which was improperly done.
