I felt the same as your friend did when I drove a new M3, nothing feels as raw and sporty as the S2000 for the money. I know.... the Elise, but that is too impractical and I hate looking out the rearview every bump thinking something fell off...

they are both fun in their own respect.. my vette gets better highway gas mileage.

...This is my dream!

However, in my dream, each one would come with a "Victoria Secret" model riding shotgun!

Is top gear in the Vette really tall?

I wish our top gear wasn't so low. I don't understand the reason behind spinning at 4k on the freeway just cruising.

Yes. The 'vette top speed actually comes in 5th because 6th is so tall.

If I dump the car into 6th on the highway and hit traffic I could bog the motor if traffic flow drops down to 50mph or so. It's a VERY tall gear.

while i dont like spinning at 4k (or even 5k.. hehe).. i find it useful sometimes, esp around me where the freeways have hills, so I don't have to downshift.. i mean, don't get me wrong, I love to shift.. but other than the noise, its not too too bad

I don't find it a problem, but if the S was cruising at 2,000-2,500 on the freeway like the vette, imagine what our highway mpg would be.

I don't know about you, but 2000 rpm in my AP1 makes my engine about as unhappy as can be. I would settle for 3000 rpm at 80mph instead of 4500 though.

VERY TALL GEAR
traveling in 6th at 80mph about 1750-`1800rpms..
just idling..

and still has some punch..
you must go up a gear if you need a lot.. but 30.5 on the last trip to the bristol race..

i still like the s for fun factor..

Chevy, luxury car....riiight.

I'd have to go with the C6 over an S, the LS2 is a wonderful motor and they corner better as well but you do pay an extra 10 grand for it.
