my s2k is a lot more fun to drive compared to the sti i traded for it. Ideally, I'd still have both as I think they complement each other very well. The sti community generally respects the s2k, except for the lack of torque!

I'd call them idiots for trying to compare a 2dr 2 seat convertible to a 4dr 4 seat sedan

I test drove an 08 Sti a few months back. One word to describe the experience...

BORING.

The torque felt great, but everything else felt numb. The steering was extremely light and the body roll was a bit too much. I still like them, and plan on trading in my wife's CR-V for one.
I agree.

But this has to be the dumbest thread ever. Why do you have to defend your choice of car to STi owners?

They're not even in the same category. It's like saying "My Accord is better than your Miata because my Accord has seats for 5 people." It only applies to specific situations.

Is there a specific situation you'd like to compare to two cars in?

I know I crush Stock or mildly modded STis at pretty any track event that I go to (err...any track event that includes STis, that is). My S2000 was stock when I did most of the crushing. It now has coilovers, wheels, and (still street) tires and an intake. So it's pretty damn close to stock still.

The S2000 is more fun to drive.

The STi would be a good car if I had a family and could only have one car.

I don't have a family. I have 2 cars. So it's not a good choice for me. I'd rather have a REAL sports car rather than a Econo sedan modded to be a sporty driver.

BOOORING.

There is no comparison. I own both and hands down my STi beats my S2K in every performance aspect. The S2k makes up for it with great looks, excellent handling and when the top goes down there's nothing better at double the price.
You mean your STi beats the S2000 in "from a stop" acceleration as a singular performance aspect?

What else can it out do the S2000 in? Have you taken both/either to an actual track?

I don't dislike the STi. I'm just a realist. The STi/EVO superior performance aspect is a common misconception for people who haven't actually experienced the S2000's capability. For example: Were you aware that the S2000's power to weight ratio is around the same as the STi/EVO?

S2000: ~2800lbs/240hp = 11.6666666lbs/hp.
STi: ~3300lbs/300hp = 11lbs/hp.
EVO: ~3200lbs/287hp = 11.149lbs/hp.

Those are crank numbers. Factor in the fact that the S2000 puts it's power down more efficiently, and the S2000 may even have a slight advantage.

I'm not sure what the typical EVO/STi puts down, so I won't try that equation.

From the data I've read, the braking distances are also smaller, the lateral acceleration is better or the same, the slalom speeds are higher.....hmm.

Maybe it's because of the lighter weight, better weight distribution, better chassis construction, better suspension design, more focused nature of the car, better layout for performance, etc etc. OP are you writing this down?

I don't really understand how the EVO/STi are magically better performers even though they have all the odds stacked against them.

Oh wait...the STi does destroy the S2000 in the "which car can get 4 people to the grocery store the fastest" contest.
