boiler - Why do you feel that way? I really don't see this as an either/or issue. We've said nothing that would imply you must choose one over the other. As has been said before, S2KCA is a car "club" and S2KI is not. I can't see why you can't belong to both organizations.

We have differing goals and differing ways of getting there but you should choose to belong to one or the other or both orgs depending on what you want to do.

I've belonged to many different clubs and organizations at the same time because they served me in different ways. Evaluate the merits of both and decide what benefit you derive from each organization based on their own merits.

jelliot - This should basically answer your question as well. Base your membership decision on the value that each group brings to you and not on the relationship between us. The fighing and bickering that has resulted from the obviously differing agendas our two organizations is both distracting and destructive to the community as a whole.

The high-level relationship we have with S2KCA really has little or nothing to do with whatever choices you decide to make. Make your own decision based on the organizations leadership and what value you feel each organization can deliver to you. If you feel that both organization offer you value then belong to both.

Things which S2KI and S2KCA choose to cooperate on or not should not be the basis of your decisions.

The following is a personal opinion, and by no means represents any organization's endorsement. (read to mean: even though my status says "moderator" doesn't mean I know any more than any one else who's been active on this forum within the last three weeks.)

Being a fairly new owner/member, I was distressed reading the two prior s2kca/s2ki.com threads. There are personal differences of opinions and "irreconcilable" (sp?) differences between the leaders of each organization (as I counted, six main players) that go back to the beginnings of when the S2000 was introduced in 1999--and people were starting to organize "interest" groups. I think HondaGal just wanted to "end" the dispute in a pleasant way, which I feel she did. There is no need to choose sides here. Folks can belong to both organizations without conflict.

S2ki.com is free for all to participate in, with some added benefits for "members." Operating costs are obtained through advertising and member donations. It is a web-based business which may make a profit or run in the red.

S2kca is a car club with a "dues-paying" membership. If you do not pay, you do not play. It is a non-profit organization attempting to provide an sponsorship umbrella for S2000 events and S2000 concerns of its membership throughout "America." It looks like there will be a marriage between S2KCA and American Honda Motor Company to recognize S2KCA as the premier S2000 car club in the US.

That's how I see it.

Wingman: Thank you for the fairly lengthy, but also very factual, tutorial on the former arrangement of s2KCA to provide a small amount of financial support to us here at S2KI. Everybody who doesn't understand all the details should read your note, and perhaps it even belongs in the FAQ?? HondaGal's start of this thread, while well intentioned, just could not register with those of us not having the proper background.
For the record, I will not over-react from here on. I am proud to be a dues paying member here, and feel my 20 bucks has gone to a good cause. Hopefully all future posts around here will deal with my important issues: those of a somewhat overaged, but enthusiastic owner of a still absolutely flawless 2002 S2K with 5000+ miles, who does not pop the clutch and frequently exposes his balding head to the sun.

I had a thought a few weeks ago and should have brought this up before I plopped $20 for a membership here. Why is this s2ki.com instead of s2ki.org?

Given what I've learned at this site I think it should be an .edu!

Brings up a good point cthree...don't change the name! I've invested a little extra myself in my own level of pride in this site:

Historically and normally, .orgs mean non for profit. I understand it costs a lot to host this, but some people might be mislead. You could always purchase a .org and redirect, but if it's just one person that notices it and knows it's worthwhile, it's no big deal. I did see kitty.org (substitute the kitty with another 5 letter word that's similar), and I am sure they aren't non-for-profit. Heh heh heh. I never got into s2kca, though I found it when it came with the car. People who use this site are aware it's a valuable tool to up to date information, and saved me a lot of money when it talked me out of getting an Audi TT

My thanks to HondaGal, Wingman, Cthree, QPhox, and others for appreciating the differences and merits of both S2Ki and S2KCA. Especially given the heightened emotions of the last thread regarding this, it is a relief that this thread is mature, cool-tempered, and thus far, centering around more fact than fiction or assumption.

I'm feeling the warm fuzzies again for the first time in a long time!

Sondra,

I hope that you and the rest of the S2KCA members continue to contribute and post to this site. It'll be a shame to lose one of the old school s2ki members.
