I had a little tussle with a S4 today and had my hat handed to me.

My wife and I were at a stoplight and a yellow S4 pulled beside us , a middle aged gentleman with his 3 kids in the car aged between 9-13.

I could tell he wanted to race so we edged up a bit waiting for the light. I revved it so did he, his kids eyes lit up, my wife says "think he wants to race".

The light turns green I launch pretty good at about 4500 rpm and he pulls on me, he shifts before me of course and I get even with him, then he starts to pull away , left me at his rear bumper till it was time to ease off, we approached speeds of about 90 in a short period of time.

We come up to the next stop light his kids are high fiving each other he's all smiles I look over give him and his kids the thumbs up and they reply in return.

It was fun even though we got beat, now my wife wants to trade in her Accord for a S4.......

Later.....

Disclaimer

I do not endorse nor encourage street racing and rarely do I bite the bait.
Also noone was injured it was on a deserted country road in S Jersey only thing at risk would be some cows if they could possibly jump the fence.
I do not belive that the S2000 is a drag racer, if I wanted one I would have purchased a Mustang GT.

I wonder if that guy will remember this race when he's either bailing his kids out of jail or scraping them off the pavement in a few years. What a wonderful example he set for them!

Oh come on. You can't deprive your kids of all excitement. I used to love going fast in cars (fast being hitting the highway ) and I certainly didn't grow up to be a reckless driver.

Anyways, S4's are very nice cars. Great second car to have next to the Stook.

Thanks Rob for a while I was feeling like I was some sort of freak.

Afterall it was only straight run a little less than a 1/4 mile.

I did get a kick out of the kids smiles, my wife and I laughed all the way home... at the speed limit of course 55mph for those who are concerned

He probably wasn't even chipped.

But, you know, he's a middle-aged old man with three kids in a yellow sedan. How exciting can his life be?

Take him through some turns and he's bye bye.

For the average driver (and maybe even those of us racer wannabes), the S4 is more confidence inspiring. Even in the twisties (esp. if the road is unfamiliar), the S4 will likely walk away as well.

In a straight line run, the S4 should easily keep up with the S2000 with a regular launch. Don't have to do too much to launch an S4. In an S2000, you have to lay down about 10-20 yards of rubber if you want to match an S4. If the S4 is chipped, it's not even worth trying.

But look at it this way, the S2000 feels special when you drive it. The S4 feels less so.

I can't argue that special feeling. Even with a little time in the PASSENGER seat, it was a load of fun.

But I'm wondering if that feeling will last two, three years down the line when the car is more common and other "special" cars show up in the market.

I know I smiled just as much when I felt that stock S4 rocket off the line. It's a different ball game.

Anyone else play with an S4?

RT:

At the track, driver ability comes into play more so than raw hp.
