Default Saner bar blues

I had my car at the track this weekend to try out my new Saner front sway bar that I installed 1 month ago. It worked Great!!! Less oversteer, easier earlier throttle application without the fear of my rearend breaking loose, just what i was hoping for. First off, I have read nearly every thread on this topic thats been on this website, and they have been very helpful so thanks to all. However, at the track during my first run I began to hear a clunk sound with left turns. I didnt think much of as i had read about it before. But it got worse as the day went on. It was clunking over every bump and nearly every turn. I drove carefully home to check it out. At home I found no gashes or scrape marks, the bar looks good ( its a red one) no marks on my shocks no nothing. There were some loose endlink nuts! so I tightened those back down thinking the problem was solved. Today the same thing started all over again though to a lessor degree. This thing clunks over bumps. cracks in the road and on any sharp turn. I havent rechecked it yet but I suspect something under there is loose again. The weird thing is although its loud and noisty it seems to work Great. One general observation: THIS THING DOESNT COME WITH ANY DIAGRAMS OR INSTRUCTIONS !, Although john Saner told me he would send me a diagram nothing came with mine. When you see the bag of nuts and bolts that come with it YOU CANT BELIEVE THERES NOT EVEN A HAND DRAWING OR SOMETING.! If it werent for this web site I would still be trying to figure it out. and its trully not that easy to finagle the endlinks into position. Well I ve gone on long enough. Im going to back under there to see what I find or take it to a shop and have them look at it. (should I go to a dealer?) and I will probably call Saner although I am not sure what he can do over the phone. Despite the fact that it seems to work well, it sounds like something bad is about to break or the front end is about to fall apart. Anyway, suggestions would be appreciated and I will try to keep you posted although it will probably take me a week or 2 to sort it out due to time constraints. Thanks, Gerry

Sorry to hear about your experiences. This is one of the major reasons why I decided NOT to go with the Saner product aside from the long wait involved with acquiring one. I'm not saying that the bar isn't a good product at all, I feel that if they can't provide you with everything you need, how can you be sure that they're not skimping on other areas we're not aware of?

From the previous threads regarding the Saner bar, I'd start pulling things apart and start inspecting the mounts, bushings, endlinks and such. Is the bar new? Is there any evidence that it's coming into contact with your shocks?

I hope it's nothing serious.

The clunking is probably the bar, being that it weighs in at ~24 lbs., knocking against the metal collars around the urethane bushings. It is very annoying, especially at low speeds.

Good luck with getting a hold of Saner on the phone or of having your phone calls returned by them.

If you do a search, 'Nobody' did a nice "how-to" thread for the Saner bar installation. It shows the correct way to connect the endlinks.

Damn Gerry...you just made all my concerns a reality.

I debated long and hard about which bar to go with but my main concern was how much time I would have to spend dealing with issues like the one you had mentioned....I went with the Muzz bar and I haven't had a single problem since.

It might not be the ONE TO HAVE for Nationals and it is probably not the best one out there, but it is the least expensive one and will address the oversteer issues right away.

Good luck sourcing the problems....

One thing to check on the install is the spherical bearings in the endlinks. The bearings need to have some movement available in them in order to function properly. If the endlink is installed such that there is no range of motion available, it could 'bottom out' and cause the noise you are describing. I've had the bar for about 7 months and never had the problem you describe.

Well I took things apart and things were loose again, but with the info that Ludedude and Asura gave me I figured out that I had not done things exactly correct in the beginning. Man things are alot easier to do the 2nd time around. I had the endlinks flipped. so I reversed them and took it for a drive. So far things seem fine on the street. But it seemed fine prior to taking it to the track the first time. I am headed back to the track in 2 weeks to retest. I feel pretty confident at this time. I will let you know. Thanks Asura and ludedude, yall helped alot. Gerry
