That is what you get. I thought that the kit was expensive because of the labor that is involved, but now that they are shipping all over???

Thanks for the pictures and best of luck with your upgrade.

A local owner just had the install done and it is very sweet.

Have a look in the New England owners section for the discussion.

Regarding costs, retail is based on value, not cost of materials.

Some of the costs are related to electronics (Boost control, turbo timer, ecu).

I belive the install will also be higher than the $2k number.

I understand economics and the need for a business to make a profit. I guess I am just curious what it would cost if someone pieced together their own. Of course, I realize custom fabrication would have to be done for the manifold, etc. I guess I am trying to compare this with a typical turbo kit that costs half that price.

There are a number of people that are piecing their own kits together, although I don't think that any of them have managed an install yet.

The other big point is that there is no competition in the retail turbo kit for an S2000. Who else are you going to buy from? No competition = high price.

Now that's a nice Turbo manifold!!! Saw off two pipes and bolt it on. The turbo will be sticking out of the hood but that's a small price to pay for real power! (SEE MY ABOVE POST)

As for me and my house, we're happy with SC! (Until a Turbo leaves me seeing tail lights)

Thank's everyone for the great feedback. I guess you must also take in consideration in the cost all the research time that must be put in to create a flawless kit like Speedcraft has. I can't wait because I find it hard to believe but they actually dyno the kit at 330+ at the wheels with 8 pounds and a mix of racing fuel. The cost is $6,200 for the kit, $475 for Apex A-VCR, $350 for Apex V-AFC, $800 for 3 Apex gauges, $70 for gauges mounting pod, $800 for the exhaust, $1,500 installation, $350 for head gasket = $10,545.

As for Garyj I hope you find a nice pair of binoculars so you can keep track with my taillights when I come to California.

damn.

Good luck with the kit. It is encouraging to see so many people going with Speedcraft. I haven't see anyone that has been unhappy with the kit yet.

If you really calculate all the pieces, all the parts do not
really add up to $6200. Not even close to it. I guess
research and development = LOTS and LOTS of $$$.
Maybe it's Monopoly? I'm sure the cost will be lower if
other companies make turbo kits for our cars.

I still remember DRAG/Greddy/F-Max kit for civics/integras
only cost around $3k-4000 complete kit. I know civics/integras
are cheaper cars but their turbo kits are basically the same sh1t. It basically consists of turbo manifold, downpipe, tubo, wastegate,
BOV (blow-off) , intercooler piping, FMIC (intercooler), in-line
or in-tank fuel pump, a FMU (usually a Vortech), air filter and pipe, maybe
some check valves (or missing link for map sensor) and oil feed and oil
return line. That's pretty much it. The only thing I see on
the S2000 that civics/integras don't have is the oil relocation
kit, which would only cost $2-300 top, because the oil filter
location...

GSRacer (or is it someone else?) is trying to piece up a kit
himself and I am sure it will not run him any close to $6000
mark. You can go out and buy all the pieces yourself that
speed craft get and would still cost less than $6G. The only
thing you'd have to do is to have a shop that weld the downpipe and intercooler piping for you. I'd love to do
this to my own car but reliability is a main concern to me since
i sold my prelude... for more reliability reason, i'd rather
go for a SC kit or keep it N/A.

Just my opinion.

Quick question:
does the speedcraft kit come with a Wastegate Dump Tube?
is it welded back to the downpipe or vent to the ground?
i used to have a turbocharged prelude and the wastegate dumps
the air to the ground and i always smell the fume.....

That is if you can drive your car that far without a return to the shop.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. So far, lots of comments from turbo installers on tuning, modifications, and adjustments. I'm sure the first 10 SC units had their share of tuning problems. Remember all those MAP sensor discussions? I hope things go well. You're an "early adaptor", which makes it possible for others to enjoy the benefits of your experiments. Looking forward to hearing about your experience and fun!
