Is scheduled maintenance worth $118??
So my S2000 just reached 7200miles. Maintenance light came on. So called my dealership and they are telling me it will cost me $118 + tax for scheduled 7500 mile maintenance.
Then I asked them, what about synthetic oil? They said, it will be $30 extra. So If I want synthetic oil, they are going to charge me $148 +tax for 7500 mile service.
So I did scheduled for this Friday but my gut feeling tells me that I am pretty much going to waste my money if I do. I am thinking maybe I should do the oil change myself or at somewhere else but bring my own oil so I know for fact synthetic enters my car.
Anyways, I am just too busy and have no time to do any of these services on my own.
So as title says, is scheduled maintenance necessary?
Thanks.

what are they doing for 148?? at 7200 miles, that should just be an oil change... are they doing an "inspection"
take the time and change your oil yourself. buy an fumoto valve so that your future oil changes will be easy...

scheduled maintanence is the a cost of owning the car. You could do it yourself, but Murphy's law will tell you that when its time to get some warranty work done, some jerkstore dealership will say "well you didn't follow the scheduled maintanence, so your warranty is void, sorry..."
This is the severe duty maintenance listed at Honda Owners Link:
7,500 mi/12,000 km/6 mos Scheduled Maintenance
Check front and rear brake
Inspect the tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Inspect the suspension components
Inspect the driveshaft boots
Check engine oil and coolant at each fuel stop
Check tire inflation and condition once a month
Probably not worth $ 148.00 (unless you realize that the dealership generally charges about $ 150.00 per hour labor).
I will reiterate a continuing theme of mine:
If you have the wherewithal to purchase a $ 30k plus automobile then why are you carping about having routine maintenance performed by a "certified" mechanic. Doing this will give you some comebacks if anything goes wrong with the car during the life of the warranty. I don't particularly care to shell out that kind of money either but I made the decision to buy the car and I will ensure that it is maintained to the best of my ability. Trying to scrimp on maintenance is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Having said all that...Do what you want. It IS your car after all.

Check and inspect are all qualitative. These fuzzy things have no real meaning at all. Inspect tie rod ends. I looked at them didn't see anything wrong.. Same with the others How hard do you think they look? They might glance over it and give it a poke but they aren't going to take a microscope to it. Get your oil changes and look the car over yourself you don't have to have anyone else do it. Don't know where these things are or how they should look? get a book and read about it..

That price may be the same for all Hondas. When I asked my dealer what they did for that price, tire rotation was on the list and I got them to deduct $10. Not much, but better in my pocket than theirs. I brought my own Mobil 1 with me and they also took off the price of oil (I paid about $23 for a case of 6 at Sam's). If you use your own oil be sure and ask them to return the unused portion of the 6th quart. Good for topping off if you need it later on. Might be worth checking with your service department to see what is in the charge he quotes.
find some other s2k owner in your local club who is a mechanic. that's what i did last month, drove 70 miles to meet my friend who i know from this site.
if u still want to take her to the dealer, just tell them to take good care, especially do not lean over the fenders, cuz they might leave some dents by doing this.
Good luck!
