A set of used rims with Blizzaks doesn't hurt either!! Fantastic snow tires.
(but there are other good ones out there as well - see Tire Rack).

There is and aftermarket traction control system???

[QUOTE=gofast182,Oct 3 2009, 06:51 PM]In my area (NJ), morning temperatures are around 50 degrees right now and I've noticed a marked drop-off in grip from the stock RE050's.

Drive to the cars limits, not your own.

Don't downshift with rain, ice, or snow on the road without rev matching. You may break the rearend loose causing you to lose control.

Becareful everyone, it's time to drive with limits, so you can enjoy again next year.
If you do break the rear end loose in a down shift, just push the clutch in. It will the let the rear wheels turn freely and regain traction.

I recommend doing it, before you've over corrected several times, have gone down the interstate sideways in both directions, and when you finally think to put the clutch in your front end hits the snow bank, and now you are going 50 mph backwards.

Been there done that in an MG Midget about 20 years ago. Somethings don't change.

Now I'm prepared for it and sometimes even have fun kicking the back end out and letting the VSA tuck it back in, but I digress, please be careful as temperatures are dropping as we move into fall/winter. I can only imagine what the tires would be like when it gets to be 45 or lower. I plan to stop driving the S regularly in November.

The best analogy I can draw is when you're chewing a piece of gum and drink some cold water, the gum gets hard immediately.

Be safe guys.
THe S2K with stock Potenzas is just deadly in SNOW.
A ridge of snow a few inches high hitting the front tires
at an angle can and likely will put the car into a SPIN.

Happened to me on US 101 Southbound towards Tacoma last December - unpredicted snowshower.

. Two full turns of spin
before the car came to stop. I was doing maybe 30 mph when it happened. Countersteering and staying off brakes & throttle didn't seem to help much.

If there had been Northbound traffic, say a semi,
I would be writing this from the grave.

SO drive something else if there is a chance of snow!

[On the other hand, it's very safe in rain.]

Thanks for the tips! Mine isn't a daily driver, so I'll only be out in the S2K in nice weather. But good to know just in case I get caught in the elements.
