Default seatbelt -> seat squeak

I did a search on this, and surprisingly didn't find a topic on it so here it goes:

Just got the S 3 weeks ago, and the only thing driving me nuts is the squeak sound coming from the seatbelt rubbing the leather seat. Obviously the solution to this problem is to put something in between to stop the friction of plastic on leather.

My questions is whether anyone has come up with any clever or good ideas as to what to use and how to do it as to not destroy the slick look of the seats. I dont want to tape some stupid looking square of cloth over my shoulder or anything like that.

Any solutions?

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem.. I have not figured out what to do about it though. I usually just move around a little to get it to stop. I would like to know a fix as well.

ok but heres the answer...go to home depot or lowes and buy black velcro patch thingy. Thats it, prob solved. I have that squeak to but its been over a year and I keep forgetting to buy that lil thing. Its not that annoying to me since my stereo and the wind noise drowns out alot of sounds.

It gets worse if you have a hardtop. I solved mine by using a longer screw and raised the seatbelt guide. The shorter you are the higher you will need to raise the guide.

there is a picture of somthing to do if you search, put the tab of the seatbelt that clicks in, into the guide at the top of the seat. Wah Lah.

I didn't like the idea of sticking velcro to the leather. I'm pretty sure that that will leave a nasty residue if you ever remove it. What I did (based on a search in the forum) is get a piece of black felt from the local craft store, for like $.25. I cut a small piece of it, just barely wider than the belt, about 3/4" long. Then, I uncrewed the belt guide, and screwed it back on, with the felt between the seat and the belt guide, leaving a little "tongue" of felt sticking out. This is very unobtrusive, and that god-awful belt squeak is completely elimniated. Plus, if it ever needs to be removed, it's a 30 second job.

You sir, are a damn GENIUS!

Crap. I gotta head to the fabric store tomorrow night. I've been turning up the radio loud so I wouldn't hear the squeak.

On long road trips, when it really starts to get to me, I just take the belt out of the guide. Once it is sitting on top it is too high to contact the seat.

That works for the passenger's side when noone is in the seat, but I think this thread refers to the driver's side making the squeek.

I use the self-adhesive velcro and it does not leave any marks. Goo-gone removes any residual glue if it needs to be removed/replaced, and some leather cleaner and conditioner leaves it spotless.

I like the felt idea as well. Either way.......no more squeek!
