Default Seats gleeped...

I really feel like these pop up all the time nowadays, but here's mine.

Woke up this morning at the gf's place in ATL, got ready for work, and when I opened up my car i found the seats gone, along with the cleared sides. Looked like multiple people had been involved as the drivers side had been opened with a jimmy (weather stripping was torn up) and the passenger side had a big hole in the vert top.

Mind you, this is a gated community where i was on the third floor of a covered parking deck. To make it worse, apparently someone had called the front office ~2am to report three suspicious people in the garage....sigh....her builiding isnt nice enough for 24 hour security so that message sat on the voicemail.

Sucks even more because I live downtown with a full 24-7 concierge and incredible security...why couldn't I have been at my place instead?

Either way, damage done was ~6700, assuming I get used seats. Apparently the new 2007 seats are ~4200 each with all the hardware...so esurance wants me to see if i'm happy with a set of used seats they have a certified vendor shipping up...

I'd normally say no, order the new ones, but I need my car back in a reasonable period of time. Sucks.

Learn from my mistakes people! if you're worried about your seats getting stolen (or anything for that matter), get seat locks, and LEAVE YOUR DOORS UNLOCKED!

If they want in, they're getting in...don't lose a softtop too....

Ouch man, that really sucks. If I was you, I would see if your insurance will just cut you a check for the $6,700 and get a replacement top + aftermarket race seats (recaro, sparco, etc) and still have some $$$ left over.

If you decide to get OEM S2000 seats, definitely order a set of locks for them!

That's initially what I was thinking...but a couple factors limit me...

-car is financed...so they'd have to cut the check to myself and Bank of America...then Bank of America has to go through a process of just putting it in my name

-this is my only car, and i stupidly didnt get a rental car option on my insurance...so time is a major factor

Ah, yes the check to BOA could be a hassle. However, it still might be worth doing money wise even if you had to pay for a rental car for a few days till you could get some aftermarket seats shipped in. I think you could charge a set of seats on a credit card and BOA would have the check to you before the 30 day grace period was up. Just something to think about. Either way that's awful, especially on a GPW! That is the ONE thing I don't miss about my S2000 (you never hear about a RX-8 seats getting stolen).

$750 Robbins Top
$1500 Aftermarket seats
$2250 Total (not counting labor)

$6700 - $2250 = $4450 profit!

With that much profit, might as well just get a hard top and further reduce the chance of losing the seats.

Good suggestions all. To the OP, I'm sorry this happened to you.

Alternatively you could also look at getting the S2000 CR seats, if someone has them listed for sale and get a hardtop.

Do people jack aftermarket seats or just the OEMs?

I'm curious. What apt complex was this in? You can PM me if you don't want to post it online.
I didn't think these things happened in gated parking decks.
