just how good is the anti-theft system in the s2000? Does the key really have a chip in it for the ignition. Is any other anti-theft system recommened. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
We have an "immoblizer" chip in the key. Thieves need to either flat-bed the car or use your VIN code at a dealer to get past the chip. A pro who wants your car will get your car. Just keeps the joy-riders away. If I was paranoid I'd go for a Lo-Jack or OnStar type system.
Lo-Jack or On-star systems aren't theft deterrent systems - they're theft recovery systems. Unfortunately, they're not going to scare someone away who breaks into your car and helps themselves to your seats, etc. The Insurance companies like them, because you get your merchandise back, but god knows what they did to your car while they had it.
An alarm system such as Clifford, Hornet, etc. will make a lot of noise, and can be purchased with remote pager/beepers that work in a relatively short range. And besides, if someone is looking closely at your car, it warns them and attracts attention.
It all depends on where you leave your car, and your comfort level.
