Seibon Hoods
Well,
I've spent the past month giving praise to Seibon and their quality of products for the S. Currently their new line of Replica Hoods.
I made the effort to drive 2 and a half hours one weekend to go and visit their shop in Socal. I got a look at their products up close and personal. I was impressed.
I made my way back to San Diego and promptly made an order through a local source/vendor.
One week later I get the call........MY HOOD IS READY FOR PICK UP! Yeee haaaa.
I didn't have anyone available with a truck so I went to Home depot and rented a truck for $20.00 (unlimited miles).
I open the box, look at the hood and it's got serious weave pattern flaws in the very front of the hood were the venting is. Needless to say I was very discouraged. I even asked the guy who worked there and he said it was too noticable.
I've seen a lot of replica hoods that did not have any MAJOR flaws. I don't expect prefection because it's a replica. But it's a replica of a MUGEN......NOT a replica of a Carbon Fiber hood. It should AT LEAST be asthetically correct in regards to the weave.
Well it turns out, I reject the hood and when they call Seibon they open their other 3 boxes and claim they have the same defects.
Now I have to wait ANOTHER week to look at the next shipment of hoods.
I'm positive I'll get the hood I want. But I feel sorry for those who have ordered it shipped and get a surprise when they open the box and see one with weave defects all up in the front of the hood.
I was considering their trunk but now.........I'm weary.....
I know all the JDM whores are going to love this.... I know, I know....
"I told you so"....
I'm a BIG advocate of Customer confidence........and I'm losing mine in Seibon very quickly. After seeing the hood they shipped me I lost all "warm fuzzies" on the purchase.
Anyone else with issues......or is it just me????

Why didn't you just pick up what you like when you were there? Or is that not an available option?
I suppose I could have flipped them some scrilla and walked off with one but I didn't have the truck.
I know what I saw at their warehouse
prepare for flamage by the fanboys.....
Ok....so a couple of points you have to be aware of. To sell at the price they do, you have to make compromises. One is going to be QA. They probably got a suboptimal batch and decided to sell it because they know enough people will be ok with the imperfections. If they throw out the entire batch it would raise costs. To keep costs down they sell what others may toss as being imperfect. It's part of buying from a non premium manufacturer, but you also don't pay premium prices. That said even CF hoods from the best manufactures will come with weave imperfections. At least the return is easier than going japan.

I fully agree. If the hood's imperfections were smaller I would have accepted it.
As it was......I would have not been satisfied with the purchase had I taking it anyway. In fact I would have been dissappointed everyday I looked at it.
I've seen other replica hoods from different brands and although they are not perfect they were in no way as bad as the weave I was looking at on the Seibon hood.
I'm not saying that their products suck........cause they don't and I'm actually quite happy that someone stepped up and made the replicas for people like me to enjoy the look of JDM without the price.
But know matter how you slice it..... $600 is $600 and that means that it should at least be pleasant to look at.
I don't want a "brand new" hood on my car and the FIRST thing that someone says is...."wow, the weave is really F'd up right there"...

I think you're making too big a deal out of this, just like you did in the Mugen exhaust thread.
It's a low cost, mass produced product. You can't expect the quality control to be up there with the big brands.
It's not like they refused to take the hood back, so just bear with them for now and I'm sure eventually you'll get something closer to what you originally wanted.

I also have to say that Seibon quality isnt all that good. I used to have a Fiber Images Hood and it was overall better than the Seibon i have now. The first hood i recieved from Seibon had a deep scratch on the hood and little imperfections on the weave where the hood bends but i knew i wasnt going to get perfection. I sent the hood back and recieved another one from their new shipments and well the fitment isnt even good. There are notcable gaps and the hood is not even. I have adjusted everything, even took it to a shop. One side is higher than the other, sides arent even, weave has imperfections that are only noticable in the sun or when loooked on carefully, and the latch didnt even latch correctly. Had to bring it to my shop and had them reweld the latch piece. The weave is hand laid out so imperfections and flaws are bound to be there.
LOL this is funny, if you ever owned a civic than you know that you can get a REAL nice CF hood for 300 bucks so why 600 for the s2k? I dont see why there is such a HUGE markup in pricing for our cars.
But anyways, for any mass produced item there is bound to be flaws. At least seibon or whoever stepped up and are willing to replace the one you have now.
