The look of the hard top is so nice. But I ended up selling mine and I bought a beater. So really the choice is up to you. When it comes down to it the hardtop is a really expensive accessory. However, the good part is that its an accessory that holds its value very very well.

mgp, i am in a similar situation as you, a NJ resident with a hardtop that won't be driving it in winter conditions. I even have snow tires that I can put on when it snows. When it gets really cold the hardtop will go on and I will take it out if the roads are clear. I bought the top mainly for its looks not its winter practicality.

I also like it for its looks, but fortunately I bought my car with the hardtop and didn't have to pay extra. I admit that I absolutely love the look of my car with the hardtop, but if I could get a good deal on a used s'cer I'd rather have that.

It gives the car a totally different look. Selling it without the car wouldn't be an option for me.
Depending on location/exposure consider the lost security only a soft top can offer.

BTW a new hardware install kit is about 5 bills.

Keep it and save up for a blower. Just enjoy your car till you can afford it, then enjoy your S even more. I would never sell my hardtop, its on 24/7.
