Default Selling a car to a friend with same name

Has anyone here ever sold/bought a car to/from someone with the exact same name. My friend has the same name as I do, and while I live in CA, he lives in MA. Does that mean all he needs to do is re-register in MA and thus no sales tax?

Does anyone know? Anyone?

Well..the RMV and Sociel Security are using the same network this last couple years,so Im sure the SSN will have to come up when he's at the rmv.
(trust me i know,,I just recently found out they gave me someone else's ssn on my license 10+yrs ago,and just found out..while someone was using my ssn on their license in early 90's....but its all good now).everything is thoroughly checked and reChecked since 9/11 they told me..
hope that helps
(oh,and the tax is going to be the higher I think of the value or paid price,IF its not from a licensed dealer)

Shit! Those freedom haters ruined it for everyone. I didn't think the system could be that stupid, but I had to ask. THanks.

That's very stupid advice. Who do you think they will be coming for when the friend does something idiotic? Certainly not him (they'll be looking for you not your friend).

If it's a friend, write the bill of sale for about $10,000 and and he'll only pay about $1,000 in tax. That, or try the "present" trick.

There is such a thing as "gift" tax.

You both have the same -middle- name also?...

(on the other hand, I know two Chris Carters and two people from different families who are good friends with each other who both have the last name MacPhail, and both have the same birthday, born at the same hospital...)
