Default shared price for convertible top = $850?

Hi Everybody,

I have a 2000 s2k and just this year started getting the dreaded holes on the sides of the top. I know this has been beaten, but I have some specific questions I didn't find in the threads.

First issue - I have HondaCare, has anyone had luck in getting them to cover it under the ext. warranty? 2nd - has anyone had any luck with out-of warranty coverage by Honda? The car is 4 years old, but only has 25k miles on it.

My service dept went to Honda NA and said they are splitting the cost of the top 50/50 with me, and that price (to me) was going to be $850.

I've seen other threads here where the price was much lower. Anyone have any advice?

1. honda care coverage - have you done it?
2. honda NA covering out-of-warranty?
3. cheaper 50/50 sharing?

Thanks much!!!

Thanks

I have an '01 with HondaCare. I'm within warranty and I have seen the wear holes starting, I will be pointing it out to the service department. I will be having HondaCare replace the top if they don't fix the problems before it takes the top out. If you're going to spend $875 anyway, talk to hardtopguy and get a glass rear-window top for less and install it yourself. No more plastic problems and the straps from modifry are only $15. More work for you, but to me, glass is worth it.

Hardtopguy sells the soft top for 827.xx . So I think your dealer was going to sell you the part and eat the labor to help you out.

1. No, not covered under Honda Care.
2. I went through Honda Customer Serivce(per my dealers advice) and am getting a "courtesy" replacement from Honda.
3. N/A

My car is a 2000 and I have 33k miles...I'm not sure what your dealer said or what holes you have(I have the 2 inner holes in the "triangle" area and the metal piece protruding on the exterior of the drivers' side) but my dealer went to bat for me and made it clear to Honda CS that it is a defect.

Good luck!!!

1. didn't need to, but would have pushed for it
2. Yes, full cost of a new top with glass and a new frame (otherwise the holes will come back) and all labor covered (01, 53k miles)
3. 100 them / 0 me

I had the holes in the triangle and had the roof replaced at no charge under extended warranty 2 weeks ago - just before the 5 year warranty expired last Friday.

I didn't want the glass rear window as I want my car to be original in all ways. I'm more than happy with the new top - it even smells new again.
