Shearing the studs right off?

Default Shearing the studs right off?

my buddy has a 2001 s2k and for the second time in 2 months has sheared off the stud on his rotor. the first time it happend we had it towed to honda and they fixed it. it happend agian just driving normal in a about a mile span from his house to the gas station. any one else had this or know what is causing this?

Over torque of lugs more than likely. If you have this tenancy, think of upgrading to the H&R reinforced wheel studs. They're very much more rigid in strength compared to the OEM studs.

the wheel was barly on there both time. the tires were just rotated when he got new one.

'just rotated'? Were the front and rear wheels swapped?

Were there ever aftermarket wheels on that car before? Some wheels come with hubcentric rings that may allow a stock wheel to seem like it is going on, but could take weeks to push it back off the rotor hub making it shear studs.

This happened to me about 2 weeks ago - my rings had been on the car for over a year and I just forgot about them.....lucky for me it only happened on one rear wheel.

Just FYI - to replace wheel studs requires breaking the axle bearing and then pressing a new one
