All,

In pulling my boot to pieces to do the measuring for Muz for the boot mat I found the following object under the boot moulding, obviously in since the factory. The question is what is it for?

Now before the bright ones up the back put their hand up and shout "It's a mirror and it's for seeing your ugly self!" I know that much...

This obviously isn't an earth shattering question. I'm used to finding nuts, bolts, screws, etc., under carpets of new cars but this one was a first. I just can't imagine a japanese car worker using this to see exactly where he is putting the next bit, in fact it is probably all robotics and the "seeing" bit may be redundant.

What is it made of?

In any case, the S2000 is about as hand assembled as the NSX is - which means there really aren't many robots except for conveyer belts and dollies. Been there - seen them being built - back in 'Fall '98.

Looks like the peice that fits in front of each of the front wheels. Almost like a curb feeler but some say it adds to the aero effects. zDo a search and you will find install instructs if they are missing from your car.

What are those shield/aero pieces that fit in front of the front wheels called? One of mine is broken, it is cracked from the mount and hanging(victim of road debris). The dealer wants 87.75 for part #74101-S2A-000. The thing is that the service dept. said this is a one piece wrap around that includes both sides. Maybe its just that you have to order a whole set of stuff? On inspection it seems to be a simple single bolt on item, not a one piece wrap around including the opposite side shield. Anyone know whether you can order just one of these or have experience with replacement.

No it is a mirror. Very thin about 1-1.5mm and perfectly flat.

Col, what do you mean by under the boot moulding. I assume your talking about underneath the carpet.

For those posters amongst you who talk with "strange Americun accents" Col is referring to the trunk NOT the tonneau cover.

2kturkey,

Exactly, I forget about our foreign cousins not speaking strine.

Therefore to recap (typing very slowly) - It is a thin mirror found under the carpet in the trunk.

Honestly, I'd throw it out. It's obviously of no use and as far as I can tell doesn't belong anywhere. Someone from the factory must have left it in there by mistake. Could be an uncut piece of mirror that fits in the passenger visor. Who knows.....throw it out, dude.

It is for the passenger, it gives them something to look at while covering their eyes so they do not $!it themselves when you hit 9K.

Sorry, mate could not help myself.
