So I'm looking at the Team Voodoo spun titanium countersunk shift knob, 284 grams and $147.60 shipped unless I get some sort of discount.
OR
The Skunk 2 billet stainless steel shift knob in a gunmetal finish which weighs in at 440 grams and is $50 plus shipping.
I had a skunk 2 in my integra and the weight just made every throw feel solid. My questions is should I get the Skunk2 or Team Voodoo? I know the Voodoo is countersunk so it will make the throws a little shorter but come on.... the throw is already tiny. Which should I get? Help me out.
oh and if I go through RickS2K for the Voodoo, what kind of a discount can I get with S2KI?
I got my pearl voodoo from ricks before I became a member for I think around $45. I think he gives members a 5% discount.
Personally, I love the voodoo knob. I feel more connected to the car with that knob, the countersunk feeling is awesome when shifting. To be honest, I went with the pearl one because you never have to polish it and it looks great with my interior. I honestly doubt you will notice a difference in weights after the knob is mounted.
Here is a pic of mine
Here's a counterpoint perspective that may get me flamed.
I've tried those billet knobs that everyone likes for their weight and "solid feel", but now I'm using a lightweight Momo knob (the Anatomic, short, black leather) and I like it a lot better. It sits a little lower than the stock knob, making for slightly shorter throws, and its light weight lets you feel what's going on with the shifts better. (You REALLY know if you miss something.)
And, just like you're not supposed to drive resting your hand on the knob so as not to damage the synchros, having a light weight knob puts that much less stress on them -- maybe an insignificant thing, but it couldn't hurt. HPH
I want the exact same voodoo knob myself. There was a sale until jan 1st for 10% off and I just missed it. oh well, I guess I'm not the only one who did.
Why not go with a spun or polished aluminum team voodoo knob for 35.00 instead? That is cheaper then the skunk2 knob, and it is countersunk to just about as low as you can get with the stock shifter. I love my voodoo shift knob, and ricks2k.com offers great customer service
He wants the TI cause its the heaviest of the voodoos. As you can "feel" more with lighter knob the shiftson the heavier knobs are alot smoother and not as notchy. Also insignificant, that will help you shift faster if its smoother i know its may be like .01 sec faster but its still faster
A shift knob is very subjective for a couple of reasons: looks and feel. I like a shift knob to sit low (no gap between boot and bottom of knob, ugly!). The feel is something hard to estimate, but weight, shape and size are the factors. I prefer the Voodoo, but I wish I had a heavier (Ti) one; however, it's not worth the extra $100 at this point in my life. I think getting the Voodoo Ti would be the best choice if you want to spend the $, plus you'd be a little more unique on the board (the Ti ones aren't incredibly popular from what I gather, probably only due to the price).
