Default shift knob lock (to prevent theft)

ok so we have these mcgard locks for the seats (which i am getting)...

what can i do to keep my new OEM shift knob from being stolen? do they make a lock / key combo for it? maybe Super Glue?

i am mainly thinking of the random petty thief who reaches in while the top is down, etc.

thanks

If you're really worried about it, you could probably lock-tite it onto the shift lever. But I have a feeling that if you're in a position to have the knob stolen, then the knob is the least of your concerns (since you'll probably have to replace your cut soft top as well as your seats and any personal effects).

I agree with munckee. The costs of repair for the damage caused to even get near the knob will far outweigh the cost of the knob itself. Get a nice alarm first... and then if you still are worried, some RED loctite may do the trick. I don't think the knob would ever come back off

BTW, I do like the idea about electrifying the knob

I'd probably like having an electric current running through the entire outside of my car to shock the crap out of those who may touch my baby

Probably be less work to unscrew it and toss it in the secret compartment

Medium strength Locktite. When it comes time to remove it, leave the car in the sun to heat up the knob, wrap a rubber glove around the know and use one of those rubber strap type wrenches to unscrew it.

I think you are going to obsess yourself to death about this and that and the other thing being stolen off your car. You should learn to relax and simply live with it and get used to it. Next, you'll start worrying about your emblems being ripped off, your steering wheel being stolen for the airbag, your wheels, your headlights, your antenna and did you know that the lock on your glove box will do nothing if someone just pries it with a screwdriver? And your fuel filler door - just like a pop tart.
I'm not saying "Don't take basic precautions", like where you park it and for how long because there are common sense things like this that you can do, but I fear you will learn to hate this car because it will become just too harrowing to own.

xviper - there is a limit to what you can and should do... but i figure a few basic things should help.

wasnt sure if there was something out there to lock down the knob... i would like to be able to just leave the top down as much as possible, so locktite and the mcgard seat lock should be helpful for the random eye.

you are right tho - i will try to chill a bit
