Thumbs up Shift Knob Problem

When I took delivery of my S2K I noticed the shift pattern on the shift knob was facing the wrong way. I have removed the knob and screwed it back on several times and it still ends up the wrong way.
My question is, is there a missing lock nut or spacer that positions the knob so that the shift pattern faces the rear of the car?

There should be a lock nut on the shaft that sits below the actual knob if your talking about the OEM knob.

You can also use teflon tape on the threads and refit the knob till it lines up..

There isn't a lock nut on the shaft. Someone test driving it before I bought it probably stole it. I'll call the dealer and get one ordered I guess.

The dealership near me always removes the shift knobs from their s2000's and brings them out only for test drives...chances are they removed the nut as well and just forgot to put it back on...

Why would they remove the knobs? That's ridiculous.

Probably to ward off the possibility of somone stealing the knobs. I know its pretty common practice at many car shows since people are in and out of the cars all day without much direct supervision.

Dano100, another idea if you have trouble tracking down a replacement lock nut for cheap, you could also use some Locktite Blue. A couple drops of that on the shifter threads and it will hold the knob in place pretty good.

Just an idea. Good Luck.

Does anyone know the size and thread count of the nut? I'm 60 miles from the dealer I purchased the car from and maybe I could find the correct size nut (metric, I'm sure) at the local hardware store.

What does your knob look like? Round by any chance? Or Egg shaped.

For a fix I would use Loc-Tite blue thread locker. You will have a hard time finding the nut. Just apply the loc-tite to the threads of the shifter, screw the knob on until it stops, then back it off until the pattern is lined up. Then let it dry overnight. To remove, it will take some additional force to "snap" it free, so use a rubber glove, or a clean hand. I can do it by hand, but I have bug hands.

The nut it M10-1.50.

Have the dealer ship the nut to you...it is their mess-up. I'm sure you could wait a couple of weeks with the knob backwards.
