Default Shifting from 1-3-5/6

Recently I began shifting from 1-3-5 or sometimes 1-3-6 am I hurting anything on the car by doing it?

Where I drive the speed limit is only 35mph through the base so I hate having to keep shifting through every gear just to get up to 35 mph.

Thanks

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: not if you know what you are doing.

It puts a fair bit of wear on the synchronizer. If you clutch in and wait 2-3 seconds before you move the shifter into the gear of choice, you'll be just fine. 2-3 seconds is enough time for the input shaft to slow down enough that you won't put any excessive wear on anything.

why did you buy this car if you don't like shifting? i bought it because i love shifting and it's the best gearbox around. maybe you should get an auto Z4 or merc coupe...?

I wouldnt do it. Main reason why i wouldnt do it is because of how one of my friends explained things to me. It made sense to me and I took it to heart. You obviously CAN shift from 1-3-5 or whatever, but if you watch videos of professional race drivers ona track, even if they skip a gear say from 1-3, they will still bring the shifter into 2nd gear momentarily before puting it into 3rd and releasing the clutch pedal. I figured if it is good enough for them, then its good enough for me. I honestly dont ever skip gears though. When you ship a gear you lose out on vtec.

It has to do with matching engine and transmission rpms. Skipping gears is not good for the trany - use search to find more info!
