Default Shifting with A/C on

I bought my car during the cool weather, so I haven't had to turn on the A/C until now recently. I've noticed that you need higher rpms after you shift when you have the A/C turned on. Like after the shift is done, the rpms will have dropped, but it will require a higher rpm than what it is at after I shift, so the car will bog. I hope that makes sense. If I give it some gas before I let go of the clutch, it helps, but not every time... especially with the 1-2 shift.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have a technique or know of some tips to shift better?

At low RPM, less torque is being generated to the parasitic drag on the engine is more noticeable. Higher RPMs put the engine in a better position to handle the drag.

Now, if you mean that the engine actually bogs/hesitates, that's a different matter. If this is the case, you should have the dealer check it out because that's NOT normal.

if you're steady on the gas in a particular gear, I just feel that it gets a bit slower with the gas in the same position... thus requiring more throttle input, using more gas to compensate for the power "robbed" from you engine by the A/C

On a side note - you should run the A/C at least once a week to keep it (seals etc) in good working order.

Yes the A/C uses more engine power. In fact the new Lotus Elise automatically cuts the A/C off under heavy acceleration for better performance.

Try shifting at a higher rpm point compared to what you usually do. Accelerate more before you shift (ie shift when revs are going up), not when you are holding a constant RPM.

I have a little habit of leaving a longer gap to the car in front of me in traffic. This way I can speed up just before I shift to get the RPMs to the point I like.

Most cars today (at WOT or pre-determined RPM) shut the A/C off unless I'm
mistaken. This car bogs off the line with the a/c on, hot weather and mild rpm
starts from a slow roll or stop (1000 rpm or lower). This engine puts out some
SERIOUS heat and the a/c on just makes things worse when you're trying to
leave a stop in high temps from say 1200 rpm. You've got to rev that dog.
As for the unit itself, it is one of the least effective a/c units I've ever seen which explains why Honda offers us a removable top.
Truly domestics have it all over imports when it comes to a/c units. My Ford Contour
SVT could keep meat frozen if you had it on full speed, coldest setting.

doesn't help its 90 degrees outside with 100% humidity. those leather seats don't help at all especially if its very sunny out.
