shifting versus granny shifting

Default shifting versus granny shifting

I need to know. Lately I have been noticing that when i shift
into 2nd gear it hasn't been completely smooth. Since than
i have been granny shifting. I heard granny shifting is where you put
the clutch into neutral before you put it into gear. since i have been
granny shifting the shift feel hella smooth. Is that what granny shifting is?(putting the clutch into neutral before into gear). WIll a great shifter put the
clutch right into gear bypassing neutral?

I have also been trying to teach myself heal & toe downshifting. its really hard.
Is rev matching the same as double clutching? what's the difference. when i downshift, i put the clutch into neutral rev the rpms up to where they need so that the plates are synchronized and then i engage the clutch.

Seems like this question gets asked frequently enough to justify it being part of the Frequently Asked Questions list...

Without getting into the merits of each, does anybody want to take a stab at defining the terms?

Please, this granny wants to know. I never see neutral when I'm shifting (up or down). Just how does a granny shift?

maybe i'll watch it again tonight. what i remeber from the first race when
Brian lost to Dom and after the race Dom was saying how he Brian didn't double clutch and he was granny shifting. what seemed odd about that statement was that the race was a drag race. it was all up shifts. maybe i need to watch it again like you said.

is double-clutching the same as rev-matching?



DOUBLE-CLUTCHING
Double-clutching was common in older cars and is still common in some modern race cars. In double-clutching, you first push the clutch pedal in once to disengage the engine from the transmission. This takes the pressure off the dog teeth so you can move the collar into neutral. Then you release the clutch pedal and rev the engine to the "right speed." The right speed is the rpm value at which the engine should be running in the next gear. The idea is to get the blue gear of the next gear and the collar rotating at the same speed so that the dog teeth can engage. Then you push the clutch pedal in again and lock the collar into the new gear. At every gear change you have to press and release the clutch twice, hence the name "double-clutching."

Double clutching is clutching twice, once to go to neutral and again to shift gears.

Granny Shifting is what most people do.....shifting without either.....

It's been previously discussed that you DO NOT NEED TO DOUBLE CLUTCH in the s2000 or any newer car for that matter. Rev Matching is all you need to do when downshifting to accelerate and Rev Matching with Heel toe is what you do for downshifting to slow down.

so basically, double clutching involves rev matching? double clutching is
used in downshifts.


what is granny shifting? what is the definition of a granny downshift and
upshift. lately when changing gears i press in the clutch, shift to neutral, and while
the clutch is still pressed in i then put it into the next gear. if downshifting, i revmatch and then put it into the next gear. i do all this really quick. i maybe hold it in neutral for less than a second.


you guys arent helping much. maybe i just being a jackass.
i feel like im going in circles. im probably confused from watching the
Fast and the Fictitious to much.
